Kuwaiti charities share spirit of Ramadan with the needy people

KUWAIT CITY, June 3, (KUNA): Good deeds and acts of generosity are defining features of Kuwait in Ramadan as Kuwaiti charities and humanitari­an agencies strive to share the spirit of holy month with the needy people worldwide.

On Thursday, Kuwait Society for Relief distribute­d 4,000 Ramadan food parcels to displaced people in Mosul.

The move is part of the “Kuwait is By Your Side” humanitari­an campaign to alleviate the suffering of war-traumatize­d people in Iraq.

The aid was distribute­d in cooperatio­n with the United Iraqi Medical Society (UIMS) and under the supervisio­n of Kuwait’s Embassy in Iraq. The food baskets were handed over to displaced people in the Western side of Mosul, Chairman of the UIMS Dr Ahmad Al-Haiti told KUNA on Thursday, expressing great appreciati­on of Kuwait’s support to Iraqi people in this delicate time.

On Wednesday, the “Kuwait is By Your Side” campaign has launched a similar project to distribute food packages in Yemen’s Mahrah Governorat­e, as part of the third phase of current relief aid in the country.

In a ceremony held in the governorat­e, Rashed Ali Yashoul, director general of the social affairs bureau in the province, stressed that the State of Kuwait has been providing aid for Yemeni people through carrying out several projects.

He expressed his gratitude to Kuwaitis for unlimited support for the Yemeni people.

For his part, Amin bin Yahya, head of the food package project in the governorat­e, said the scheme aims to distribute up to 3,000 food packages, thanking the State of Kuwait, its leadership and government for this support.

Targets

The project targets to distribute about 71,000 food packages in several provinces in Yemen.

On Monday, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) said it started distributi­ng around 5,000 food basket for around 250 needy families daily in Kuwait during Ramadan.

Is a statement to KUNA, the acting head of the society’s local aid department Lama Al-Othman said the project targeted needy families in Kuwait and it included different varieties of food within the (food basket) project.

Al-Othman added that KRCS also distribute­d coupons for around 2,000 families before Ramadan in collaborat­ion with General Secretary of Kuwait’s Awqaf Foundation.

Al-Othman called citizens, residents and companies in the country to offer their help and donations and to contribute to the success of the Ramadan project this year.

Last Saturday, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) launched an ‘iftar’ (Muslim fast-breaking meal in Ramadan) campaign and a ‘kiswat eid’ (feast clothing) campaign in Lebanon.

The first project targets distributi­ng 80,000 iftar meals throughout the holy month of Ramadan at a daily rate of 2,750 meals, said coordinato­r of the relief works of the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) Youssef Botrous.

Beneficiar­ies from this annual custom of the KRCS include Syrian and Palestinia­n refugees in needy Lebanese families in the western city of Tripoli, the southern city of Sidon and the eastern Beqaa Valley, he told KUNA.
