N. Korea’s envoy hails Amir’s role in supporting peace

-

KUWAIT CITY, June 5: Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries So Chang Sik did not leave any issue untouched in a lengthy interview with Al Rai daily, ranging from North Korea’s nuclear weapons to the declared conflict with the United States of America and the threat of using nuclear power, reports Al-Rai daily.

He praised the Kuwaiti policy, the wisdom of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and his role in supporting peace and reaching diplomatic solutions for all issues in the region.

During the interview, he also touched on the double standards of the United Nations’ Security Council, the Palestinian cause, terrorism, the unification of Korea, and other thorny global issues.

Ambassador So Chang Sik said his country’s development of its nuclear arsenal is normal and expected because of the threats it receives from some countries.

He stressed that his country was forced to possess and strengthen the nuclear deterrent capability to defend the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.

The ambassador expressed surprise over the double standards of the UN Security Council and the imposition of sanctions on his country because there is no any page or section in the UN Charter and provisions of international law that describes a nuclear test, launch of artificial satellite or launch of an experimental ballistic missile as a violation.

He indicated that the permanent members of the UN Security Council have carried out such activities, saying he wonders why the permanent members of the UN Security Council have that right.

Ambassador So Chang Sik revealed that those countries have conducted nuclear tests more than 2,000 times, launched thousands of satellites and launched ballistic missiles over more than 10,000 kilometers on a regular basis, “So why no decision to impose sanctions against them has been taken?” he asked.

He explained that the US policy has not changed over the past century, and it continues to be based on a divide-and-rule system so that it remains the only dominant force in the world. The effects of this policy are clear with evidence of what is happening in former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Syria and Libya.

The North Korean Ambassador also touched on many issues and affirmed his country’s desire to live in peace, without having to face any provocations.
