Alzheimer patients regarded as people with disability: Sabeeh
Municipality okays EPA request to remove bird shops from Friday Market
KUWAIT CITY, June 7: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind AlSabeeh disclosed that Alzheimer patients are regarded as people with disability and the disease has been categorized according to international standards.
The minister made the disclosure while responding to some parliamentary questions as to whether the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs disburses money to the wrong people after detecting cases of dead disabled people whose families declined to report the incident.
She explained categorization of the disease as a disability is stipulated in the international treaty for rights of people with disability of the World Health Organization (WHO), an affiliate of the United Nations.
In response to a parliamentary question, she denied the authority pays unmerited funds to schools, kindergartens or other educational institutes, even though some funds were paid retroactively before State Audit Bureau made relevant remarks that considered the paid money to be illegitimate.
Funds
She noted a large amount of funds disbursed earlier has been retrieved, while the rest is being paid in the form of deductions. She denied that some companies donated devices to the Public Authority for Disable Affairs.
She said the authority has taken steps to recover monies from heirs of deceased handicaps through amicable means. She also stated the authority has since reported the remaining cases to the Department of Fatwa and Legislation for litigation. She reiterated 240 files of people suspected to be feigning disability were detected, of which 38 files have been referred to the Public Prosecution Department.
Kuwait Municipality has approved the request of Environment Public Authority (EPA) to remove the bird shops in the Friday Market to pave way for renovation of the area, reports Al-Anba daily.
Speaking to the daily, Coordinator of National Liaison for SAITIS Agreement in EPA Sheriffa AlSalem explained the authority made the request after receiving complaints on irregularities and encroachments in the area.
Al-Salem also confirmed the nomination of two agencies to prepare the technical requirements for the renovation.
Admission and Registration Dean at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr Rabah Al-Nejada said more than 5,000 students have so far registered in its faculties and institutes and the number is expected to increase in the next period, reports Al-Rai daily.
Al-Nejada said PAAET has a capacity of 9,000 seats this year and registration is online only through the authority’s website, adding the deadline is on June 22.
