Huge quantity of subsidized items on illegal sale seized
70 kg expired foodstuff confiscated
KUWAIT CITY, June 7: Emergency team affiliated to the Department of Monitoring and Consumer Protection seized a quantity of subsidized commodities at a makeshift market in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.
In a statement, the department said Sadeeq Emergency Team in cooperation with Ministry of Interior acted on a tip-off regarding some individuals selling subsidized commodities in the aforementioned market and raided the place.
The team noticed that hawkers were filling up empty containers of subsidized items with different varieties of commodities such as rice due to popular demand for subsidized provisions.
They seized 15 sacks of 50 kg rice, 36 boxes of powdered milk, 8 boxes of infant milk, 257 empty sacks for refilling subsidized rice, and a sewing machine for sealing the sacks after the refill.
The operation was led by shift leader Khalid Al-Badri and inspectors Ammar Al-Ostaz, Muhammad Al-Adwani and Ayed Al-Otaibi. All confiscated commodities with the violators were referred to relevant authorities for legal action.
Expired food seized:
The Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality affirmed that the Emergency Team of Capital Municipality will continue with the inspection campaigns on wholesale stores in Shuwaikh area, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
In a press release, the department explained that 70 kilograms of expired food items were confiscated from 40 shops and warehouses, and 12 warnings were issued for infringement on state properties.
Director of the Emergency Team Eng Zayed Al-Enezi said the campaign was carried out by the team with the cooperation of the Public Relations Department and in coordination with the four-member committee formed by Municipal Council.
He urged all shop owners to comply with municipal rules and regulations.
‘Baqalas’ warned:
The Public Relations Department at Kuwait Municipality has confirmed the continuation of campaigns being conducted by Jahra Emergency Team targeting groceries located in private houses at Sa’ad Al-Abdullah City, resulting in the issuance of eight warnings to erring individuals.
Head of the team Ali Al-Quwaidi explained these campaigns is in compliance with instructions of the director of the Municipality branch in Jahra in order to put an end to such a negative phenomenon and to protect the health of residents. He disclosed eight warnings were issued to those proven to have violated the regulations, informing them that the violations must be rectified within the grace period, otherwise, legal action will be taken against the owners of groceries and the houses as well.
The department urged citizens and expatriates to communicate with the Municipality through hotline number 1844448 and social media account kuwmun@ in case they have complaints.
Eve-teaser chased:
A Kuwaiti woman chased away an eve-teaser who stalked her daughter and tried to give her his mobile number, says Al-Seyassah.
Reportedly, the Kuwaiti woman and her daughter were shopping when the latter noticed a man following them. He then went up to the young girl and tried to give her his mobile number. When she informed her mother about the man, the mother hit him on the shoulder with her sandal. When bystanders intervened, the suspect fled from the location.
Securitymen who were at the location were informed about the incident, and they launched investigations to find the suspect.
Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti woman filed a case at Sulaibikhat Police Station against the driver of a sports car.
She informed securitymen that she was driving down a road when the suspect chased her and tried to give her his mobile number. When she refused, he smashed the front glass of her car with a plastic rod.
