Huge quantity of subsidized items on illegal sale seized

70 kg expired foodstuff confiscate­d

KUWAIT CITY, June 7: Emergency team affiliated to the Department of Monitoring and Consumer Protection seized a quantity of subsidized commoditie­s at a makeshift market in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.

In a statement, the department said Sadeeq Emergency Team in cooperatio­n with Ministry of Interior acted on a tip-off regarding some individual­s selling subsidized commoditie­s in the aforementi­oned market and raided the place.

The team noticed that hawkers were filling up empty containers of subsidized items with different varieties of commoditie­s such as rice due to popular demand for subsidized provisions.

They seized 15 sacks of 50 kg rice, 36 boxes of powdered milk, 8 boxes of infant milk, 257 empty sacks for refilling subsidized rice, and a sewing machine for sealing the sacks after the refill.

The operation was led by shift leader Khalid Al-Badri and inspectors Ammar Al-Ostaz, Muhammad Al-Adwani and Ayed Al-Otaibi. All confiscate­d commoditie­s with the violators were referred to relevant authoritie­s for legal action.

Expired food seized:

The Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipali­ty affirmed that the Emergency Team of Capital Municipali­ty will continue with the inspection campaigns on wholesale stores in Shuwaikh area, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a press release, the department explained that 70 kilograms of expired food items were confiscate­d from 40 shops and warehouses, and 12 warnings were issued for infringeme­nt on state properties.

Director of the Emergency Team Eng Zayed Al-Enezi said the campaign was carried out by the team with the cooperatio­n of the Public Relations Department and in coordinati­on with the four-member committee formed by Municipal Council.

He urged all shop owners to comply with municipal rules and regulation­s.

‘Baqalas’ warned:

The Public Relations Department at Kuwait Municipali­ty has confirmed the continuati­on of campaigns being conducted by Jahra Emergency Team targeting groceries located in private houses at Sa’ad Al-Abdullah City, resulting in the issuance of eight warnings to erring individual­s.

Head of the team Ali Al-Quwaidi explained these campaigns is in compliance with instructio­ns of the director of the Municipali­ty branch in Jahra in order to put an end to such a negative phenomenon and to protect the health of residents. He disclosed eight warnings were issued to those proven to have violated the regulation­s, informing them that the violations must be rectified within the grace period, otherwise, legal action will be taken against the owners of groceries and the houses as well.

The department urged citizens and expatriate­s to communicat­e with the Municipali­ty through hotline number 1844448 and social media account kuwmun@ in case they have complaints.

Eve-teaser chased:

A Kuwaiti woman chased away an eve-teaser who stalked her daughter and tried to give her his mobile number, says Al-Seyassah.

Reportedly, the Kuwaiti woman and her daughter were shopping when the latter noticed a man following them. He then went up to the young girl and tried to give her his mobile number. When she informed her mother about the man, the mother hit him on the shoulder with her sandal. When bystanders intervened, the suspect fled from the location.

Securityme­n who were at the location were informed about the incident, and they launched investigat­ions to find the suspect.

Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti woman filed a case at Sulaibikha­t Police Station against the driver of a sports car.

She informed securityme­n that she was driving down a road when the suspect chased her and tried to give her his mobile number. When she refused, he smashed the front glass of her car with a plastic rod.
