OIC chief meets Spanish envoy
OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen with Spanish ambassador to
Saudi Arabia Alvaro Iranzo. The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen received on June 7, in his office at the General Secretariat in Jeddah Alvaro Iranzo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
Ambassador Alvaro conveyed his country’s appreciation of the important role the OIC is playing at the regional and international levels and expressed Spain’s readiness to promote bilateral relations with the Organisation with the aim of jointly facing the current challenges.
The fight against the scourge of terrorism, combatting rising right-wing extremist and populist voices across the West, confronting increasing trends of Islamophobia and the promotion of cooperation in the field of science and technology were among other things identified as possible areas for mutual cooperation.
Dr Al-Othaimeen thanked the Kingdom of Spain for its interest in the OIC and expressed the Organisation’s readiness to cooperate with Spain in all identified areas; informing the Ambassador on the need for both sides to take joint initiatives in view of establishing regular bilateral consultations and exchange of visits.
