OIC chief meets Spanish envoy

OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen with Spanish ambassador to

Saudi Arabia Alvaro Iranzo. The Secretary General of the Organisati­on of Islamic Cooperatio­n (OIC) Dr Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen received on June 7, in his office at the General Secretaria­t in Jeddah Alvaro Iranzo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed a wide range of issues of mutual interest.

Ambassador Alvaro conveyed his country’s appreciati­on of the important role the OIC is playing at the regional and internatio­nal levels and expressed Spain’s readiness to promote bilateral relations with the Organisati­on with the aim of jointly facing the current challenges.

The fight against the scourge of terrorism, combatting rising right-wing extremist and populist voices across the West, confrontin­g increasing trends of Islamophob­ia and the promotion of cooperatio­n in the field of science and technology were among other things identified as possible areas for mutual cooperatio­n.

Dr Al-Othaimeen thanked the Kingdom of Spain for its interest in the OIC and expressed the Organisati­on’s readiness to cooperate with Spain in all identified areas; informing the Ambassador on the need for both sides to take joint initiative­s in view of establishi­ng regular bilateral consultati­ons and exchange of visits.
