Requests made to refer nine co-ops to Public Prosecution
Ministry decides to dissolve 5 board councils: Al-Adwani
KUWAIT CITY, June 10: Assistant Undersecretary for Cooperative Sector Affairs in the Ministry of Social Affairs Sheikha Al-Adwani received requests to refer nine cooperative societies to the Public Prosecution since the start of 2016 due to financial and administration violations uncovered by committees tasked to review the operations and accounts of these cooperatives, reports Al-Jarida daily.
In her interview with the daily, Al-Adwani explained “the ministry decided to dissolve five board councils and dismiss nine members in four cooperative societies. The number of committees formed to review the operations and accounts of cooperative societies reached 18 – 16 of them were formed in 2016 and two committees were formed this year in Kaifan and Jahra.”
Al-Adwani disclosed that after the activation of the automated system, editing of names and clearing double registration of members, the number of real stakeholders registered in cooperative societies totaled 363,000 — a manifestation that the ministry has successfully dealt with the ‘double membership’ issue with the help of the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI). She added the ministry laid down in April a plan to solve the dead and spoilt stock issue, affirming the plan was successful as they managed to reduce the total amount by almost half a million Kuwaiti dinars.
She went on to say the total number of cooperative societies in different parts of the country reached 67, while eight cooperative societies were inaugurated recently — six in 2016: Mangaf, Jaber Al-Ahmad, Naeem, Sadeeq, Abu Fatira and Fahad Al-Ahmad; and two in the current year: Egaila and Gharnata.
