KD 2 embarrassm­ent:

He hoped Kuwait would continue paying further attention to the Palestinia­n Cause in the light of the US’ initiative to end the crisis.

On his part, former Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora stressed the need of joint-Arab cooperatio­n to face the growing threat of Israeli settlement expansion.

Meanwhile, Palestinia­n Minister of Public Works and Housing Mohammad Shtayyeh said the Palestinia­n revolution started from Kuwait. The country had gathered Palestinia­n leadership from all over the Arab World, he added.

Shtayyeh noted that Kuwait was home for some 400,000 Palestinia­ns at some point. He added that Kuwait’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has recently signed contracts with 67 Palestinia­n teachers in Ramallah.

Meanwhile, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), in collaborat­ion with the Lebanese Red Cross, on Friday doled out food aid to 5,000 Palestinia­n families staying at refugee camps.

The aid was delivered to the families, in the presence of Kuwaiti embassy’s acting charge d’affaires to Lebanon Mohammed AlWagayan and Palestinia­n embassy’s representa­tive Hassan Sheshniya. referred to the concerned authoritie­s for necessary legal action.

Citizens and employees from some institutio­ns, including senior officials complained of embarrassm­ent caused to them by the Ministry of Justice, reports Al-Qabas daily.

They say they are being prevented from travelling for failure to pay money to the state even if the amount is as small as KD 2.

A number of jurists have said the ministry must set a ceiling which can bar a citizen from travelling.

They said a person who owes KD 2 to the state cannot be treated the same as those who steal millions of dinars.

Statement

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Wagayan said the aid is part of the continued humanitari­an support provided by the State of Kuwait to the internatio­nal community generally and Palestinia­n refugees in Lebanon particular­ly. He expressed his gratitude to Lebanon, as it has spared no effort to host both Palestinia­n and Syrian refugees. He also commended efforts by KRCS in Lebanon, in cooperatio­nn wit the Lebanese Red Cross, through carrying out effective activities and projects aiming to alleviate suffering of vulnerable people.

For his part, Sheshniya thanked the State of Kuwait, His Highness the Amir, government and Kuwaitis for this humanitari­an initiative allocated to Palestinia­ns in Lebanon. He noted that Kuwait has been backing Palestinia­n people for many years, referring to Kuwait’s contributi­on to reconstruc­ting the Gaza Strip. He voiced his hope that Kuwait would continue to buttress Palestinia­n people and their issue.

According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the number of Palestinia­n people in Lebanon is estimated at 480,000 staying at 12 refugee camps in several areas across the country.
