IBL Team 1 rout K2E2 to grab FTBK tourney lead

DMDA & D’ Islanders post convincing victories

KUWAIT CITY, June 19: Through another superb performanc­e at the on-going eliminatio­n round of the 2017 Season 11 FTBK Tenpin Bowling Team Tournament, the hot and spicy pin busters of IBL Team 1 grabbed the tournament leadership from sister team IBL Team 2 after routing defending champions K2E2 Thunders in their scheduled sixth week match. Also posting convincing victories in the double round robin qualifying stage of this event organized by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers Kuwait (FTBK) and held every Friday at the Cozmo Bowling Center in Salmiya were the DMDA Bowleros, D’ Islanders, Rock N Bowl, Siete Pares 1 and NLB Corporatio­n.

Still smoking hot from a sizzling performanc­e last week where they garnered the second best team output in their 3,356-3,039 total pin falls win over the World Class Keglers, IBL Team 1 was again like an unstoppabl­e runaway train in their match against beleaguere­d defending tournament champions K2E2 Thunders. In command right at the onset of the 4-game series match, IBL Team 2 made light work of the off-form Thunders in games one and two where they eke out 787-706 and 768-661 victories. Although K2E2 looked more like the team they were in season 10 in game three, IBL Team 1 were not yet ready to let into the match and spoiled the Thunders’ effort with a more stunning 945-782 victory. Spearheade­d by Colin Costa, Brian Fernandes, Lloyd Fernandes, Valentine Gonsalves and Uly Menezes, IBL Team 1 closed out their

by out lasting Dyn Aviation in a closely contested and high scoring match. Led by JR Sabado, Ronald Ferolino, Rolly David and Sam Snipes, Dyn Aviation took off in style as they stopped DMDA in game one 838-745. After the Bowleros closed in on the aviators through an 811-749 decision in Game Two, Dyn Aviation once again stretched their advantage to 8 marks 2,389-2,307 whrough another 802-751 win in the penultimat­e game. With Alfred Avila, Al Belarmino, Jane Nance and Chit Mariano in the lineup for the final game of the match, DMDA Bowleros succeeded in turning the tide in their favor by dishing out an all important 904-795 match clinching win in game four. Final winning tally of DMDA Bowleros that was also bannered in this outing by Tito Tamayo, Jun Guerra and Sonny Mariano was 3,236-3,184.

D’ Islanders on the other hand bounced back from a week 5 losing stint by taking down the entertainm­ent magnates of Cozmo Salmiya 3,175-2,966. After D’ Islanders emerged victorious in the nip and tuck affair game one 768741, Cozmo Salmiya led by Paul Arcayan, Bert Pantanilla, Dexter Nebres and Cris Batucan returned the favor by grabbing a 755-725 victory in Game Two to take a slim 1,496-1,493 lead going to the penultimat­e Game Three. And while Cozmo continued to bowl below par, D’ Islanders in contrast started to find their marks to soundly defeat their rivals 815-737. To wrap up their fruitful outing, D’ Islanders headed by Bobby Carambas, Vernie Villaruel, Edgar Pascua, Janet Shaikh, Marilyne Mariana and Danny Doctor clinched the match with a decisive 842-708 win in Game Four.

In the other completed matches of the week, Rock N Bowl came back from a 2-game setback to beat the Siete Pares 2 pin breakers 3,083-2,996. After taking the opening game 779725, the quartet of Siddharth Nair, Alex Nodalo, Mario Santos and Dorcas Sansone stretched their lead to about 10 marks with another 795752

victory in game two. Unfazed by the two successive defeats, the Rock N Bowl foursome of Romy Daus, Tariq Sairat, Pilar Patula and Norie Sairat bounced back in the next game with a 774-706 win which slashed down the lead of their rivals two just 2 marks. With the sudden swing of momentum turning in their direction, Rock N Bowl went on to stun Siete Pares 2 with an 807-716 decision in the final game of the match. Siete Pares 1 on the other handed ended up in the winner’s circle by stopping Strikers X last week’s top scorer 3,072-2,907. Game One of this match went to Strikers X as John Caldwell, Jheng Liwayway, Vicky Navarro and Norman Conde consolidat­ed their their pin sniping to eke out a 773-670 win. But with Egay Cabildo, Rico Galang, Jazel Pangilinan­a and Manny Nazaire manning the lane, Siete Pares 1 swept the three remaining games via 790-688, 827-781 and 760-665 scores. NLB Corporatio­n led by Ric Marimla, Chris Bulacja, Rudy Zablan, Nelson de Leon, Philip Marimla and Sarel Pascual also emerged victorious by taking down World Class 3,080-3,009. IBL Team 2 who drew the bye slot garnered a total score of 3,077 pin falls.

For the Individual and Team High scores the current record holders are as follows: Individual High Game Men Class O/A- Chris Bulacja 266, Men Class B- Ali Arqoub 235, LadiesJhen­g Liwayway 205; High Average Men Class O/A- JR Sabado 190, Men Class B-John Caldwell 190, Ladies- Jheng Liwayway 170; Team High Game - K2E2 Thunders 822 and Team High Series - Strikers X 3,267.
