KUWAIT CITY, June 20: Ministry of Public Works is intending to cancel the projects for construction of residential housing complexes for expatriate workers in a number of areas.

According to informed sources from the ministry, there are three projects listed in the ministerial plan, and its developmental plan of fiscal year 2009/2010 will be affected. These projects include construction of labor accommodation complexes in South Municipality Scrapyard, in West Hujjaj City and North Storage Area in Mina Abdullah.

They explained that the ministry was about to construct these complexes for Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and had earmarked an estimated cost of KD 30 million for the three labor cities. The reason for the ministry’s inclination to cancel the three projects is that it has commissioned the projects to Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) between public and private sectors, which last May had called on companies, specialized local and international joint ventures and the companies listed in Kuwait Bourse to submit application for the planning of the labor cities project in South Jahra City.

Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Road Engineering Sector at Ministry of Public Works Eng. Ahmad Al-Hassan has affirmed that activities of the project for construction, completion and maintenance of Fifth and Sixth ring roads is moving towards completion and handover in line with the contractual time schedule.

He indicated that work is underway to prepare the base of the Intersection 2, stressing that this project is a vital project that will contribute to diverting part of traffic from the Sixth Ring Road and serving the expected traffic flow from Sabah Al Salem University City and from Kuwait International Airport after it is developed.
