AI, AMIDEAST launch summer program at local orphanage
English Language, Skills for Success aim to improve, hone children’s abilities
KUWAIT CITY, June 20: Alghanim Industries, one of the largest private companies in the region, announced the launch of the English Language and Skills for Success summer program in association with AMIDEAST for children at the Children’s Home orphanage in Kuwait.
The program is being offered to children between the ages of 6 and 10, and is aimed at developing their language skills in four areas which include listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as broadening other language abilities and grammar.
The Children’s Home is an orphanage operated by the Ministry
Kutayba Y. Alghanim
of Social Affairs and Labor’s Social Welfare Sector. Over the course of the last three years, Alghanim Industries pledged to bear the full cost of restoring six houses, in addition to the outdoor playground and central kitchen.
Commenting on the summer program, Kutayba Yusuf Alghanim, Chairman of Alghanim Industries and Member of the Board at AMIDEAST, said: “In the current economic and technological climate, mastering the English language has become essential. In fact, it’s a pre-requisite for any employment or educational opportunities. Although the English language is taught as part of the curriculum during the year, a summer program that is properly structured by experts, such as the ones at AMIDEAST, will greatly improve and hone the children’s abilities. That is what makes me one of the biggest proponents of such educational initiatives in Kuwait, and even more so because they support our children at the orphanage. This will help them become engaging members of our society in the future and provide them with a competitive advantage throughout their careers.”
Speaking about the program, Samar Khleif, Director of AMIDEAST in Kuwait, said: “We are excited to once again partner with Alghanim Industries on educational initiatives that enable the future generation of Kuwait to succeed in a competitive economy, Kutayba has been a longstanding supporter of AMIDEAST since its establishment and continues to support our educational endeavors. Through our partnership with Alghanim Industries, we are able to reach and engage with an untapped youth demographic in Kuwait.”
This initiative comes as part of Alghanim Industries’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which is committed to empowering the underprivileged, supporting education and encouraging entrepreneurship. It is worth noting that the company was a major sponsor of the “Give Them a Chance” campaign that was launched by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society to provide quality education opportunities to all non-Kuwaiti children living within the country whose families are not able to afford paying school fees. The company also recently entered a partnership with the UNHCR, signing a MoU through which Alghanim Industries will support the education of Syrian refugee children in Lebanon.
