KUWAIT CITY, June 28, (KUNA): Kuwaiti donors have put an end to plight of indebted citizens and relieved hundreds of others of legal action and penalties, the Minister of Justice indicated on Wednesday.
The national campaign, “let them fast with us,” has resulted in paying KD 960,000 (USD three million) worth of debts for those facing civil suits, lifted arrest warrants against 618 persons, closed 800 legal files and freed 25 prisoners, said Dr. Faleh Azeb, also the Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs.
The minister made the revelation as he received Eid Al-Fitr well-wishers.
The government, he said, has succeeded in coordination with welfare societies in paying debts of nationals and expatriates, persons wanted in civil cases, as a contribution to boost social stability.
Meanwhile, Director General of Islam Presentation Committee (IPC) Eng Abdulaziz Al-Duaij said a total of 715 individuals of various nationalities converted to Islam during Ramadan, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Duaij explained the most difficult phase for converts comes after uttering the two declarations of faith. He affirmed the committee is keen on teaching converts about purgation, ablution, prayer and pillars of Islam. He said the committee continues to exert tremendous efforts at the educational, cultural and social levels.
He added the committee has distributed 68,293 Iftar meals in its branches starting from Jahra to Wafra; as well as 3,049 gift bags to all nationalities.
