KUWAIT CITY, June 28: In the frame of coordinating for the next parliamentary session, sources have pointed to constant consultations among members of the parliament to accomplish the Financial Committee’s report on amendment of social security law to reduce retirement age, which is currently insured without considering the age limit, reports Al-Anba daily.

The same sources added the law permits early retirement with pension without considering the age at which a person retires, indicating the retirement age of men will be after 25 years of service and that of women 20 years.

With regard to government’s rejection of the law, sources mentioned that members of the parliament have committed themselves to pass it regardless of the stance adopted by government in that concern, and the parliamentarians’ move will be in accordance with the constitution, its regulations, and the majority’s decision.

Meanwhile, MP Faisal Al-Kandari is surprised by government’s silence on the warnings issued about the environmental pollution that is directly linked to liver cancer, says Al-Qabas daily.

In a statement, MP Al-Kandari said report of the senior auditor of ISO 22,000 for food safety published

by Al-Qabas cannot be overlooked, especially as the government did not provide any convincing reason for the mass demise of fish 17 years ago that continues until now.

MP Al-Kandari noted Kuwait Bay has been destroyed due to slackness, lack of supervision and indifference of some government bodies in charge to monitor drainage of polluted water, as well as chemical and industrial materials directly into the sea.

He said the entire sea will be destroyed if the slackness toward the industries and stations continues without implementation of standard environmental safety regulations.

He pointed to the senior auditor’s statement that mentioned various diseases caused by such non-environmental friendly activities, among them liver cancer, and serious need for a government-parliament stand on the issue.

MP Al-Kandari called for daily

lab test procedures to determine the level of water pollution near the drainage holes, in addition to sending the lab analysis to accredited global environmental institutions to verify the existence of pollutants and related diseases. He reiterated all such reports should be referred to the parliament.

Chairman of Labor Union at Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Mohammed Al-Hajri extolled the efforts of Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Essam Al-Marzouq and his keenness to visit the workers of the oil sector particularly Kuwait Oil Company on the second day of Eid Al-Fitr in order to congratulate them on the occasion. The minister specifically thanked the workers for staying on duty away from their families, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Hajri praised the speech of the minister for the national manpower

that is running the sector with complete efficiency, expressing his hope that the minister’s statement will be translated into a decision in favor of the oil sector employees in order to provide them with a suitable work environment that will encourage and motivate them to exert more efforts.

He stressed that the national manpower needs motivation to continually grow and develop the sector, especially since it is the main source of income for the country.

Al-Hajri insisted that attempts to oppress the rights of oil sector workers should be stopped because it threatens the competent workers and makes them feel frustrated.

He concluded by calling on Minister Al-Marzouq to take bold decisions to re-change the labor composition in the oil sector, which is congested with the presence of expatriate workers especially Asians, urging the minister to replace these expatriates with citizens.
