‘Cleaning firms to face law if workers caught begging’

KUWAIT CITY, June 28: Director-General of the Kuwait Municipali­ty Ahmad Al-Manfouhi has said that the Municipali­ty will punish the cleaning companies if the workers are caught begging for alms, reports AlSeyassah daily.

Al-Manfouhi added 50 percent of the workers do not have work contracts with the cleaning companies but are seen on the streets with a broom to clean the roads, but actually they beg for alms in the garb of a cleaning worker.

Some of these workers are reported absconding by their sponsors. Al-Manfouhi said it is the responsibi­lity of the cleaning companies that people who wear the company uniform have employment contract with the company.

Charity violations:

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Minister of Municipal Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri said 10 cases of collecting donations illegally by imams have been reported and the Ministry of Awqaf shall take necessary steps by referring them to the Legal Affairs Department immediatel­y, reports Al-Anba daily.

Meanwhile, according to the statistics issued by the Public Prosecutio­n, 90 percent of the complaints dealt with and investigat­ed since the beginning of 2017 until the end of May are related to insult on e-websites, reports Al-Qabas daily.

More than 1,500 cases have been registered in first five months of the year with demands to arrest the violators of personal freedoms and insults through Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp.

Wanted man held:

Policemen from the Capital Province have caught a Kuwaiti man who was wanted by law in connection with several financial claims worth KD 2 million and referred him to the relevant authoritie­s, reports Al-Rai daily.

He was caught in the Al-Sabah Health Area. When he was asked to produce his ID, he claimed to have forgotten it at home and when police insisted he pulled out the ID after a few minutes.

Ex-con arrested:

Police have arrested a Kuwaiti, believed to be a former criminal, for possessing and consuming narcotic pills, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added the man was arrested inside the Ardhiya Industrial Area.

According to security sources, when the man was told by police to stop, he obeyed but he put something in the mouth and swallowed.

A 25-year-old young Kuwaiti has been arrested by police in downtown Kuwait City to serve a three month jail term, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to the daily he was sentenced for failing to pay KD 1,348, debt. Police have also arrested another Kuwaiti for failing to pay worth KD 4,790 debt.

Two other citizens were also taken into custody for the same reason – one failing to pay KD 3,500 and the other KD 2,063.

Waiter thrashed: Police have arrested four Kuwaitis for beating an Egyptian waiter inside a restaurant in Salmiya, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to reports this happened when the four men were told by the waiter that the table they wanted to occupy had been reserved by another person who had gone to the washroom.

Officer insulted:

A 20-year-old Kuwaiti girl was arrested and referred public civilians that attended the greeting reception. According to security sources, one of the traffic officers discovered that a Kuwaiti girl was causing traffic congestion in front of the airport. When he approached her and asked her the reason for the action, she used words deemed offensive to the officer.

A case of “insulting an officer while on duty” was filed against her at Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Police Station, where she has been detained for investigat­ions.
