Parliament eyes new law in bid to ‘regulate’ collection of donations
‘Need to form govt panel’
KUWAIT CITY, July 27: The Parliament is planning to expedite the passing of a new bill to regulate the collection of donations, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting parliamentary sources.
They insisted that the government, represented by Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, should cooperate with the Parliament in this regard by presenting a bill and working on finding consensus with the parliamentary proposals in that aspect.
The sources explained that the Parliament’s insistence to come up with a new law for regulating the collection of donations is due to the current security situation in the region as well as reports revealing about people who are collecting donations illegally and sending these donations to unknown destinations.
There is also the fear that the money collected as donations are falling in the hands of terrorists and terrorist organizations.
They pointed out some legal violations and breaches in this regard by certain previous and current MPs who collected donation through social media without the permission of the concerned authorities.
The sources stressed the need to form a governmental panel for following up the collection of donations and submitting detailed periodic reports concerning the movement of donations.
