KDT’s first ‘environmental’ campaign successful: official
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22, (KUNA): Kuwait Dive Team has announced the success of the first environmental campaign for the removal of waste from the northern shore of Khairan in south of Kuwait, as part of the “Our Sea” initiative aimed at protecting marine environment and beaches.
Head of the Kuwait Dive Team Waleed Al-Fadhel told KUNA that the campaign to clean the coasts of Khairan succeeded in removal of tons of plastic waste, wooden parts and other wastes from the shores in order to preserve the marine environment and marine creatures as well as to keep the coasts clean and enjoyable for visitors.
He explained that most of these wastes on the coasts were because of some visitors to the location as well as southern winds that hit Kuwait recently. The team took advantage of the receding tide which facilitated the removal of these wastes.
Al-Fadhel said the new coastline of Khairan has many beaches and major developmental projects in Kuwait, making it an important ecological coastline especially since it also has a lot of wildlife and is considered as a nature reserve which has enriched the presence of fish and sea wildlife in it.
He called for tightening control on this coastline to curb its exposure to pollution because of the many waves and difficulty in movement of water currents in it, which necessitates that it should not be subjected to any environmental pressure that will affect the beauty of the sea or the marine organisms.
