KOC surveys Kuwait Bay to draw accurate maps: official
Dangers of using plastic bags highlighted
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 26, (Agencies): Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has conducted 3-D surveillance of Kuwait Bay and surrounding locations.
Mohammad Al-Ajami, in charge of exploration at the KOC, said in a statement on Thursday that the survey area totaled 3,300 sq kms, some 19 percent of the Kuwait’s total territory.
Field operations kicked off in August 2015 and ended in May 2017, two months ahead of the schedule end.
KOC experts are currently analyzing data and sketching maps, he said indicating that the project aims at drawing accurate and detailed geological sketches of the region, stretching from Burgan field to Bahra field.
Meanwhile, under the slogan “Our Environment is More Beautiful with Environment Friendly Bags”, an environmental volunteer team known as Kuwait Echo recently described plastic bag as the number one killer of marine and land inhabitants in Kuwait, reports AlRai daily.
Team leader Fatmah Al-Ajmi disclosed this at a recent event organized inside The Scientific Center, saying plastic bags cause serious harm to plants and coral reef—not to talk of the monumental damage to human health. She stated Kuwait consumes about 70 million plastic bags per month through various cooperative societies, markets and other sectors.
She indicated the issue of plastic bags was the main reason the team organized the exhibition to sensitize the public about harm associated with the use of plastic bags, and need to replace it with environment-friendly materials. She noted 57 cooperative societies across the country consume around 600 tons of plastic bags per month.
