Veteran KUNA staff member passes away:

Kuwait News Agency eulogized on Friday the advisor and former chief of the news agency’s bureau in London Hosni Emam who passed away earlier on Friday.

KUNA Chairman and General Director Sheikh Mubarak Duaij Al-Sabah said in his eulogy of the senior colleague that his demise is a huge loss for the Kuwait and Arab press.

Emam had played a key role in boosting KUNA’s services since establishm­ent of the news agency.

Sheikh Mubarak praised Emam for his devotion to work and contributi­on to making the Kuwaiti news agency on par with other Arab and internatio­nal news agencies. Emam, who had appeared in political talk shows on various television networks, was quite helpful in staff training.

He had scrambled into action with his colleagues after Kuwait was invaded in 1990, setting up a transmissi­on station for KUNA from London.

Emam joined KUNA in 1981, became the London bureau chief in 1983 and advisor in 2007. (KUNA)

‘Kuwaitis unharmed in Hong Kong, Macau’:

Kuwait’s General Consulate in Hong Kong said all Kuwaitis were unharmed in the typhoon that struck areas in Hong Kong and Macau, leaving casualties while also damaging buildings.

In a statement on Saturday, the consulate advised Kuwaiti citizens to follow safety regulation­s and immediatel­y call the consulate on number 0085298211­669 in case of emergency.

Typhoon Hato hit Hong Kong and Macau last Wednesday, killing at least 16 people, while also causing massive blackouts and extreme destructio­n to buildings. (KUNA)
