KUWAIT CITY, Aug 28, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Equate petrochemical company and Omniya Reclycing have launched a plastic recycling parntership, an initiative aimed at protecting environment by reusing plastic water bottles.

The cooperation between Equate and Omniya “is a local strategic partnership aimed at guaranteeing positive contributions that seek to preserve the environment,” Eng. Mohammad Al-Ali, head of operations at Equate facilities management department, said in a statement to Al-Jarida newspaper published on Monday.

He said Equate bought a truck to collect recyclable materials, and distributed 10 containers nationwide to encourage people throw their water bottles in them.

Omniya is a national envi- ronmental project aimed at spreading the culture of recycling of waste thus reducing harm to environment.

Al-Ali, meanwhile, said Equate was also working on a project to refine and reuse sea water for irrigation, a venture that would save 30 percent of the company’s water consumption. Al-Ali also said there was another initiative to use carbon dioxide in industries like food, beverages and dry ice.

He said Equate was totally dependent on solar energy in all of its facilities.

Al-Ali highlighted importance of energy saving by the use of sophisticated technology, however the public should also be aware in the crucial need of this energy saving.

“We are working to spread awareness and to urge the society to use all available energy-saving technologies ...,” he said.
