‘Kuwait extradites 2 Brotherhood suspects to Egypt’

Duo accused of murder, joining illegal group

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 28: Kuwaiti authorities have extradited two alleged members of the now-banned Muslim Brotherhood to the Egyptian branch of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), according to the pro-state news outlet Al-Youm Al-Sabea.

The website, closely affiliated to the country’s security apparatus, cited anonymous security sources saying that the two arrested suspects are accused of murder and joining an illegal group. Both defendants were previously sentenced to 10 years.

They were reportedly sent to the Sohag Security Directorate and are currently being interrogated.

Daily News Egypt contacted the media office of the Ministry of Interior, but a representative was not available.

Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, Egypt has been diplomatically active to call upon countries to extradite individuals it accuses of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood. The group is designated as a terrorist group by the state, and its political party has been banned.

Thousands of the group’s supporters and members have been arrested and are currently being tried in front of the Egyptian judiciary.

Last June, Egypt security apparatus have renewed calls to the Interpol to extradite wanted individuals, through renewing its red notice.

In 2015, the Interpol accepted Egypt’s request to put Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya’s leader, Assem Abdel Maged, on its wanted list.

In September 2014, late Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat called on the Interpol to arrest fleeing members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, who are wanted for engaging in criminal activities.

In previous events, the Interpol assisted in arresting fleeing Brotherhood leaders in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in March 2014.
