Minister visits schools to check new year readiness
‘Repair works at full swing’
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 30, (Agencies): Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Mohammad Al-Fares on Wednesday emphasized importance of continuing field inspection of schools in various educational areas to check their readiness for the new academic year.
He made these remarks to the press today after inspecting Taima primary school for boys and Taima Kindergarten affiliated to Al-Jahra educational area.
Al-Fares checked classes, schoolbooks, conditioning devices and all other facilities needed during the academic year. Director General of Al-Jarha Educational area Waleed Bin Ghaith told KUNA that he is exerting all possible efforts to encounter any obstacles that might hamper cherishing a successful academic year to students and teaching staff.
He also inspected readiness of the teaching, administrative staff at the kindergarten primary mad middle level schools to start by Sept 5, to be followed by the high school level by Sept 10.
The Ministry of Education is racing against time to counteract challenges in the execution of annual maintenance works at the schools and to overcome obstacles in the path of teachers, administration and students before the start of the new academic year 2017/2018, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The daily quoting a source revealed the ministry has signed five direct contracts for school maintenance out of 12 contracts covering various educational zones, and the remaining contracts will be signed after the representatives of relevant companies have been summoned for that purpose. He stated the contractors are due to start work immediately after the signing of contracts.
He affirmed keenness of the ministry to facilitate all means of support to accomplish maintenance works in the schools before the start of the new academic year and return of students to school, indicating the contractors will begin their activities at intermediate schools and then primary schools, because they will resume before the secondary schools.
He reiterated the contractors will start with simple maintenance work that won’t take much time to accomplish, followed by radical maintenance activities after the first day of Eid.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah has opened an investigation into the maintenance contract signed by the private security department with a local company, reports Al-Rai daily.
The contract involves armored vehicles used by the Special Forces and those involved in tampering with the state money shall be referred to the Public Prosecution.
The private security department is also said to have contracted with a local company to develop a number of armored vehicles and the value of the contract is worth hundreds of thousands of dinars. The contract also includes the installation of towers (turrets), upholstery work and mechanical modifications.
