Court acquits citizen of robbing entertainment center
Customs chief defines duties
The Appeals Circuit of the Misdemeanor Court cancelled the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance to imprison a Kuwaiti citizen who is accused of stealing movable property of an entertainment center. The court instead acquitted him.
The defense counsel Lawyer Talal Al-Enezi called for cancellation of the verdict, citing lack of incriminating evidences against his client.
The Court of First Instance had referred the suspect to the General Department of Criminal Evidences after his fingerprints matched that found at the site of the incident. However, the department said the incident had not been reported to it, indicating that the lawsuit lacked incriminating evidences.
Duties defined:
Director of Customs of the Kuwait General Administration of Customs Mishaan Al-Ada’as Al-Saeidi was recently quoted as saying the task of customs officers at the border point of entry is limited
to inspecting all individuals and vehicles entering Kuwait while manning the fences and metal barriers fall within the authority of the Ministry of Interior, reports Al-Rai daily.
While praising the Interior Ministry personnel for around the clock patrolling of border crossing points to tighten the security and prevent infiltration, Al-Saeidi affirmed infiltrators continue to attempt to enter the
country through the land border but they are nabbed by the customs officials.
He hopes to increase the number of customs inspectors to at least 100 to overcome the shortage of officers since the number of vehicles and passengers has increased at a fast pace.
He pointed to the severe shortage in female customs inspectors at all border crossings. He particularly singled out Al-Salmi,
which he said, needs 10 inspectors during every shift but at the moment there are only two available.
He stressed the border crossing in Salmi is not considered a civilized image of Kuwait because of the lack of many services. This is because the contract with the investment company was a rosy dream but it has honored only 20 percent of terms of the contract since 2006.
