Doctors & graduates among 22,000 expatriate­s deported

‘Manhunt launched for 80,000 still on the run’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: Over the past eight months until August this year the Ministry of Interior has deported 22,000 expatriate­s for various reasons including those violating the labor laws and criminals, and those who committed serious traffic violations, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Informed sources said 8,000 of them were found to be ‘unfit’ by the health authoritie­s, a majority of them Arabs and most of them said to be suffering from Hepatitis and 10 were carriers of AIDS.

The sources pointed out among the deportees were US and British citizens of Arab origin. Some of the deportees were holding Doctorate degrees and about 4,000 were university graduates.

Giving a breakdown of the deportees, the authoritie­s said the Indian community topped the list with 24 percent, followed by the Egyptians, 23 percent, the Filipinos 14 percent, Ethiopians 13 percent, Sri Lankans seven and Bangladesh­is six percent.

The sources pointed out the Ministry of the Interior is currently pursuing 80,000 expatriate­s for violating the labor and residence laws, most of them are believed to be holed in residentia­l and industrial areas, farms and livestock pens.

Corpse dumped:

Police have detained a young Kuwaiti for consuming drugs with a 24-yearold Kuwaiti woman inside his apartment in Salwa and dumping her corpse in the garden of a neighborin­g house after she died allegedly from an overdose, reports Al-Rai daily.

A security source said the owner of the house, was shocked when he saw the corpse in the garden of his house and called the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry.

Police and personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department rushed to the spot, identified the victim and investigat­ions led to the arrest of the Kuwaiti, who is in his 20s.

During interrogat­ion, he is said to have admitted that he was consuming drugs with victim. He also admitted to dumping the corpse of the victim into the neighbor’s garden.

Asian back for more:

Personnel from the General Department for Residence Affairs have arrested three Asians for gambling, reports Al-Shahed daily.

They were caught inside an apartment after police were tipped off that an Asian who had earlier been deported from the country has returned to the country and is using his apartment for gambling.

Two of the gamblers are believed to be violators of residence law. Acting on informatio­n and armed with a search and arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecutio­n, the Ahmadi police raided an apartment in the area and arrested an Asian for manufactur­ing alcohol, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The daily added, when police received a tip-off from an unidentifi­ed source, securityme­n put him under surveillan­ce for several days and then raided his ‘factory’.

Police have seized 31 drums full of brew and 483 bottles of alcohol ready for sale, in addition to the manufactur­ing equipment.

Police are investigat­ing the death of a Kuwaiti who died in mysterious circumstan­ces, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Kuwaiti who is believed to be in his 50s reportedly jumped to his death from the seventh floor of a building in Jabriya.

Police interrogat­ions have revealed there were four other people with the victim prior to his death. However, police are said to have found nothing in the apartment.

A case of suicide has been registered against the man. The death was instantane­ous.

However, the Al-Rai daily said the victim is a Kuwaiti and in his 20s. The daily also said there were three other youngsters with him, but does not know why the man committed ‘suicide’.
