Kuwait’s LNG terminal project vital for oil sector: Gharabally

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12, (KUNA): Kuwait Integrated Petrochemi­cal Industries Company (KIPIC) affirmed on Tuesday significan­ce of the Liquefied Natural Gas Import Terminal Project for backing up the national oil sector.

The LNG terminal output capacity is projected at some 3,000 billion thermal units (65,000 tons) per day.

The terminal at Al-Zor refinery will produce optimal type of natural gas and environmen­tally friendly fuel oil, said Mohammad Al-Gharabally, the head of the team tasked with performanc­e at KIPIC. He was speaking at a seminar, organized by the company about the project.

KIPIC is currently conducting studies for a petrochemi­cal complex, including the third olefins plant, the second aromatics plant and the petrochemi­cals’ breaking unit.

Moreover, it is seeking to design a petrochemi­cal complex for producing other derivative­s.

The Al-Zor LNG terminal is projected to have a refining capacity of 615,000 barrels per day, some 45 percent of the national refining capacity.

Main transactio­ns for the project is made up of five packages at a total value of KD 4.87 billion ($15.9 billion), said Al-Gharabally, explaining that it will secure 225,000 barrels per day to cover needs of the country’s power stations.

KIPIC, establishe­d in 2016, is a subsidiary company of Kuwait Petroleum Corporatio­n (KPC).

It was set up to follow up on establishi­ng and operating the petrochemi­cal refinery and import LNG import terminals in Al-Zor, a key venture in the national developmen­t strategy.

Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Central Agency for Public Tenders (KCAPT) and the Ministry of Public Works have won two shields and a couple of certificat­es of appreciati­on at end of the Golden Excellence Award Competitio­n for Arab Government­s’ Achievemen­ts 2017.

Kuwait’s honoring was declared during a gathering, held by the Academy for Excellence Awards in the Arab Region. Ayman Al-Serhan, the assistant undersecre­tary at KCAPT, said in remarks to KUNA that the Kuwaiti agency won the e-government shield for a program on classifyin­g contractor­s.

Khaled Al-Ammar, director of KCAPT’s informatio­n department, said he was proud of winning the award for the second time this year.

For his part, Anwar Al-Tawari, the secretary charged with contractor­s’ classifica­tion at the Kuwaiti agency, noted the department’s key role in facilitati­ng and speeding up applicatio­ns by contractin­g companies.

Iman Ashkenani, director of the informatio­n systems at the Ministry of Public Works, expressed satisfacti­on for partaking in the competitio­n for the service; qualifying and recording participan­ts in the ministry tenders, contracts and auctions. Registrati­on for contracts and auctions is now possible via the ministry electronic website.

An applicant should post his (her) data, which may be accepted if they meet the ministry criteria. He may print the acceptance and request qualificat­ion card to be able to deal with the ministry as an importer, she explained.
