Several loopholes detected in airport security

weather gets better. (Wafa Ramadhan — KUNA) KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: The General Traffic Department launched several surprise traffic campaigns in all governorat­es from Sept 3 to Sept 9. They resulted in the issuance of 28,685 traffic citations of various kinds, impounding of 474 vehicles, arrest of 45 individual­s who committed major traffic violations, and impounding of two motorbikes.

In addition, five expatriate­s were referred for deportatio­n after they were caught driving without a driving license.

Meanwhile, the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media at Ministry of Interior disclosed that 2,438 security missions were organized in the month of August based on the plan of the Directorat­e General for Airport Security to control the traffic flow within the vicinity of Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport, reports Al-Shahed daily.

During these security missions, 23 vehicles were seized, 2,414 traffic citations were issued and a traffic accident was dealt with. The department urges everyone to comply with traffic laws and regulation­s and to avoid disrupting the traffic especially in vital facilities such as the airport.

‘Loopholes found’:

The authority in the Interior Ministry overseeing the performanc­e of the personnel at the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport have spotted several loopholes and sent a report to the Assistant Undersecre­tary for Ports Affairs, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The report stated the metal detectors are defective and have been out of order since Aug 3 and has not been repaired yet. One of the gates does not operate properly and some employees enter the arrival hall without being inspected.

Hardened criminals:

The Jahra securityme­n have arrested two men, reports Al-Rai daily.

The suspects have been evading police for a long time, and were wanted by law for breaking into cars of citizens and expatriate­s in Adan and Farwaniya. According to a security source, the Jahra Investigat­ion Department received informatio­n about the suspects following which they were put under surveillan­ce for several days and finally caught in an ambush in the Sulaibiya Industrial Area.

The source said during interrogat­ion the thieves have admitted to stealing a car a few days ago from Adan, impersonat­ed police and robbing a number of expatriate­s. The thieves also guided police to the car they had stolen before. They have been remanded to police custody for further interrogat­ions.

Held up at border:

A Kuwaiti woman who arrived at the Nuwaiseeb border was prevented from entering the country for some time until the interventi­on of someone in authority, reports Al-Anba daily.

A security source said the woman is the ex-wife of a diplomat and she was reportedly prevented from entering the country upon instructio­n of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Her husband and the entire family were given diplomatic passports but these passports were not returned after he was relieved of his post.

It is reported that the ex-wife had left the country using her civil ID.

Caught in the act:

Security operatives arrested a Kuwaiti who broke the side glass of a vehicle belonging to another citizen and tried to steal 5 cell phones, reports Al-Anba daily.

A security source said the victim (55 years old) called the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry to report the incident and said he managed to capture the suspect with the help of passersby, as he was caught redhanded breaking the side glass of the car to steal 5 phones at a parking lot in Nurga area.
