‘Theatrical Comedy Nights’ festival kicks off

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12, (KUNA): The second edition of the “Theatrical Comedy Nights” festival kicked off Monday evening in memory of the late artists Abdulhussa­in Abdulredha and Mohammad Al-Roshoud, who left their clear mark on the Comedy Theater.

In the festival, the Gulf Theater Band presented comedic works of the distinguis­hed writer Mohammed Al-Roshoud at Dasma Theater.

The National Council for Culture, Art and Letters (NCCAL)’s Assistant SecretaryG­eneral for the Arts Sector and festival’s higher Committee Chairman Dr Bader Al-Duweesh said in his speech during the opening that the festival chose the comedian Tareq Al-Ali as the festival personalit­y for this year for his rich artistic career.

He pointed out that NCCAL represents the main incubator for artistic, cultural, and literary creativity, adding that it is keen on organizing theatre and artistic events, such as Kuwait Theater Festival, which has become one of the most important theater festivals in the Arab world.

For his part, the festival director Abdulkarim Al-Hajri said that this year’s festival presents the creations of the Kuwaiti comedy theater, indicating an approach to blend comedian theatrical works with constructi­ve and educationa­l messages.

Jari Al-Ardh (Viewing) play, will be the first to entertain the audience, followed by 4 other plays, Al-Hajri added.

The festival will continue until Sept 19 under the auspices of the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Informatio­n and Chairman of NCCAL Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.
