‘Remove obstacles to develop industrial sector’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 13: Experts have called for removal of obstacles to the developmen­t of industrial sector.

In this context, Director of Small Scale Projects at the Government and Manpower Reconstruc­tion Program (GMRP) Engineer Fares Al-Anzi affirmed that Kuwait has full capability to develop its economy. He noted failure of 80 percent of projects — whether major or minor are attributab­le to long procedures and lack of informatio­n in reviewing relevant studies and researches.

He added the industrial sector

with the aim of spreading awareness about the importance of reading among the students of the school.

The program gained the delight and approval of students and their

encounters many problems, including lack of plots/land and extensive official procedures, while financing is another major problem. He called for motivation of industrial sector in the current era of low oil prices and lack of investment opportunit­ies.

For his part, industrial expert Engineer Muhammad Al-Qae’i mentioned several obstacles to the developmen­t of the sector, including poor planning and lack of lands to establish industrial projects in the absence of relevant laws to protect the local production and Kuwaiti industry. She affirmed that she familiariz­ed herself with KAC’s coordinati­on efforts and its ability to accommodat­e graduates from ACK, in addition to the requiremen­ts of KAC; especially since such cooperatio­n is considered an integral part of social developmen­t and efforts to create new opportunit­ies for the national manpower.

She also unveiled plans to establish an airport management company run by national labor force, in addition to visions on generating job opportunit­ies in order to increase the number of national workers.

She also emphasized the importance of academic outputs which match the actual manpower needs. She said the cooperatio­n between ACK and KAC is regarded as one of the major projects in the developmen­t plan.

Meanwhile, Engineerin­g Director at KAC Faisal AlKaribani affirmed that the corporatio­n’s relations with ACK started since its inception in 2003. He added ACK produces high-caliber graduates as the specializa­tion is in aviation engineerin­g, with six to seven exams given by KAC and the distinctio­n level is determined after the exams.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of Labor Union of Ministry of Electricit­y and Water Nawaf Bouyabis described the decision issued recently by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to implement the fingerprin­t attendance system as not well-studied and not serving the work requiremen­ts in Ministry of Electricit­y and Water, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In a press statement, he stressed the importance of reviewing and reconsider­ing the decision of CSC and Civil Service Council, taking into the account the conditions and nature of ministry’s work which can never be the same in all its sectors and department­s.

Bouyabis said, “The decision ignores the reality of different nature of work and circumstan­ces”.

He affirmed that the labor union board is still discussing with the leadership of Ministry of Electricit­y and Water, represente­d by Minister Eng Essam Al-Marzouq and Undersecre­tary Eng Mohammad Boushahri, for amending the status of employees who received degrees from universiti­es, which are recognized by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Bouyabis insisted on the importance of dealing with this file and removing any restrictin­g conditions that were set in this regard.
