Kuwait fully ‘supports’ global efforts on peace culture: official
Al-Ghunaim attends 36th session of UNHRC
GENEVA, Sept 13, (KUNA): Kuwait expressed full commitment to spread peace culture around the world.
This came during the 36th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday.
Kuwait strongly believes in protecting the economic, social, political, cultural and civil rights of all people, said Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the European headquarters of the UN and international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim.
Every society should have the freedom to apply human rights laws in accordance with their culture and beliefs, without the interference of outsiders in the name of international human values, the ambassador said.
For example, the call for international human rights principles does not mean following rules that go against the teachings of our own religion “Islam”, he explained.
Meanwhile, Al-Ghunaim noted that Kuwait is deeply concerned about ongoing armed conflicts in the Arab World that claim many lives, violate human rights laws and halt the development process.
He spoke about the Israeli crimes against Palestinians and the international community’s failure to put an end to such violations.
Al-Ghunaim also expressed Kuwait’s full support to the international fight against terrorism and extremism.
The Kuwaiti official called on the international community to provide financial support for the UN Commission on Human Rights to enable it to expand and develop its work.
The ambassador affirmed that Kuwait is willing to cooperate with the commission on all levels to protect human rights and achieve sustainable development.
