‘Al-Hajraf award set to bolster national unity’

‘Youths must give back to country’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14, (KUNA): In line with the Kuwaiti leadership’s desire for a better future, the Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf Award for national works was created to bolster unity among people living in this country.

The award is launched in memory of late MP Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf who contribute­d to social developmen­t through his care for rising talent.

In separate statements to KUNA, executives behind the award stressed out the importance of such initiative­s in raising awareness on the importance of national unity.

The award’s Chairman of the Board Yousef Al-Jassem said that Al-Hajraf was an important figure within Kuwaiti society, adding that the event will target the youth in specific.

Loyalty to the homeland is an important concept and it is vital to encourage the youth to give back to their country, he affirmed.

In a similar statement, Dr Salem Al-Hajraf said that countering ideologies meant to severe social ties was important, revealing that the advent of technologi­es like social media and the internet had served as a doubleedge­d sword that could either cut social ties or bring people together.

Honor

Dedicating an award for Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf is an honor and hope the event would contribute for the betterment of Kuwaiti society, said the official.

Meanwhile, member of the award’s executive board Dr Mouthi Al-Humoud said that speaking to the youth about notions of loyalty could only set Kuwait on a course of future developmen­t.

The new generation­s are the ones to carry Kuwait towards a bright future and this award is part of an effort to empower the youth, she affirmed.

According to the event organizers, the award aims to promote the concepts of citizenshi­p, amity, tolerance, coexistenc­e, and allegiance to the homeland with a view to cementing the social texture and encouragin­g the youth to play a positive role in the developmen­t and stability of the country.

The board of trustees of the award will work out an annual agenda of the activities of this initiative such as poetry, short story, painting, photograph­y, videos and clips in collaborat­ion with experts and academics of who the arbitratio­n panel will be formed.

The award is to deliver an innovative message through manipulati­ng the social media and technologi­cal applicatio­ns to enhance the sense of national unity and spirit of citizenshi­p among the youth, the statement went on.

In addition to medals and a grand prix of KD 10,000 ($32,917), the annual award will include cash prizes for the top three winners as follows; KD 5,000 ($16,458), KD 3,000 ($9,875) and KD 2,000 ($6,583).

Registrati­on for the award began in January of 2017 and will continue until December 31. The names of award’s winners will be announced on February 2018.
