KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14: MP Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie has affirmed support for any grilling request that will be submitted against Minister of Oil, Electricity and Water Essam Abdel-Mohsen Al-Marzouq.

He made this decision after reviewing the official documents proving that the questions forwarded by MP Omar Al-Tabtabaei have been paraphrased or revised without his permission; thereby, jeopardizing relations between the executive and legislative authorities. He said the action is tantamount to cheating and misleading members of the National Assembly, in addition to violating Article 99 of the Constitution.

He stressed the interpellation of AlMarzouq will protect the legislative institution from the destructive agenda of those keen on serving personal interests. He urged the minister to hold accountable all top officials involved in this shameful incident.

He added the National Assembly will intensify its efforts to look into suspicion that some oil sector officials are misappropriating public funds, especially since the minister seems unable to understand that his continuous support for corrupt officials entails the end his political career.

Furthermore, MP Faisal Al-Kandari has presented questions to Al-Marzouq and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah AlSabah.

In his question to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the lawmaker pointed out it has been reported that the minister chaired a committee tasked to explain reasons behind the general strike of oil sector workers in 2016.

He asked the minister to submit a detailed report including a description of the committee’s work, recommended measures against the instigators of the strike, and the names and job titles of those who participated in the strike.

In his question to the oil minister, the lawmaker said the mechanism for retirement or resignation of oil sector officials was approved in 2007, and it was supposed to be applied on officials of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and its subsidiaries who were planning to retire or resign at the time.

He requested for information like the privileges granted to officials who resigned or retired according to the mechanism, number of officials who benefited from this mechanism, calculation of privileges and other related details.
