Ministry ready to deal with traffic congestion

69 cameras to monitor vehicle movements at intersections

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14, (KUNA): Undersecretary at the Ministry of Public Works Ahmad Al-Hissan recently announced that the ministry managed to open several detours after removing the iron bridge on Jamal Abdul-Nasser Street to guarantee smooth traffic flow for students of the university and colleges.

The statement was issued after a joint press conference of the Ministries of Public Works and Interior, Kuwait University and Public Authority for Applied Education Training that discussed plans to welcome the new academic year and easing congestion at the entrances and exits of government premises close to Al-Ghazali Bridge upgrade project.

Al-Hissan added the ministry has reached advanced stages in executing major road projects that are near completion, indicating accomplishment rate of the Jamal AbdulNasser Road is 84 percent and that of Jahra Road is 93 percent.

He pointed to continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Public Works and General Traffic Department to follow-up the traffic movement and to work on bringing about solutions that would reduce traffic congestion.

He called upon all establishments in the vicinity of projects being executed by the ministry to cooperate and coordinate in order to expedite the work progress to ease traffic movement.

In his role, acting Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major Fahad Al-Shuwei affirmed readiness of the Interior Ministry through its various sectors to deal with unnecessary traffic congestion on roads for the new academic year.

Major General Al-Shuwei explained the ministry had installed about 69 cameras linked to the central command center to monitor the traffic movement at intersections, affirming the ministry’s keenness to use technology in organizing traffic in order to achieve high level of traffic flow on various roads.
