Egyptian taxi driver arrested for drugs in Khaitan

Scores of citations in traffic raids

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: An Egyptian taxi driver was arrested in possession of drugs and drug parapherna­lia in Khaitan area, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to security sources, Farwaniya securityme­n were patrolling Khaitan area when they suspected a taxi driver with a passenger and ordered him to pull over. However, as soon as the driver stopped, the passenger jumped out of the taxi and started running. Securityme­n chased him but he managed to escape. When they asked the taxi driver about the passenger, he said he did not know him.

After securityme­n asked the taxi driver for his civil ID card, they noticed a sachet containing a white substance in the driver’s pocket as he was pulling out his wallet. They checked him to find drugs and drug parapherna­lia on him.

During interrogat­ions, the taxi driver admitted that the runaway passenger is his friend of the same nationalit­y and that they were taking drugs inside the taxi.

The taxi driver was arrested and referred to the Drugs Control General Department. An arrest warrant was issued against the other suspect.

City traffic raids: Officers from Capital Traffic Department launched a surprise campaign in central markets and commercial complexes, which resulted in the issuance of different types of citations.

According to security sources, the campaign was launched in batches at different times with the aim of controllin­g the traffic.

Based on instructio­ns and guidance of the Assistant Undersecre­tary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Fahad Al-Shuwai, such campaigns will continue to ensure the traffic rules and regulation­s are followed by all.

Kuwaiti citizen missing: A Kuwaiti citizen reported his 25-yearold brother as missing at Sabahiya Police Station, reports Al-Anba daily.

He said his brother left the house several days ago, driving off in a Japanese-made vehicle and has not been seen since then.

The citizen provided police with informatio­n about his brother as well as the vehicle he drove.

Security forces have initiated the search for the missing citizen.
