Egyp­tian taxi driver ar­rested for drugs in Khai­tan

Scores of ci­ta­tions in traf­fic raids

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: An Egyp­tian taxi driver was ar­rested in pos­ses­sion of drugs and drug para­pher­na­lia in Khai­tan area, re­ports Al-Rai daily.

Ac­cord­ing to se­cu­rity sources, Far­waniya se­cu­ri­ty­men were pa­trolling Khai­tan area when they sus­pected a taxi driver with a pas­sen­ger and or­dered him to pull over. How­ever, as soon as the driver stopped, the pas­sen­ger jumped out of the taxi and started run­ning. Se­cu­ri­ty­men chased him but he man­aged to es­cape. When they asked the taxi driver about the pas­sen­ger, he said he did not know him.

Af­ter se­cu­ri­ty­men asked the taxi driver for his civil ID card, they no­ticed a sa­chet con­tain­ing a white sub­stance in the driver’s pocket as he was pulling out his wal­let. They checked him to find drugs and drug para­pher­na­lia on him.

Dur­ing in­ter­ro­ga­tions, the taxi driver ad­mit­ted that the run­away pas­sen­ger is his friend of the same na­tion­al­ity and that they were tak­ing drugs in­side the taxi.

The taxi driver was ar­rested and re­ferred to the Drugs Con­trol Gen­eral De­part­ment. An ar­rest war­rant was is­sued against the other sus­pect.

City traf­fic raids: Of­fi­cers from Cap­i­tal Traf­fic De­part­ment launched a sur­prise cam­paign in cen­tral mar­kets and com­mer­cial com­plexes, which re­sulted in the is­suance of dif­fer­ent types of ci­ta­tions.

Ac­cord­ing to se­cu­rity sources, the cam­paign was launched in batches at dif­fer­ent times with the aim of con­trol­ling the traf­fic.

Based on in­struc­tions and guid­ance of the As­sis­tant Un­der­sec­re­tary for Traf­fic Af­fairs at Min­istry of In­te­rior Ma­jor Gen­eral Fa­had Al-Shuwai, such cam­paigns will con­tinue to en­sure the traf­fic rules and reg­u­la­tions are fol­lowed by all.

Kuwaiti cit­i­zen miss­ing: A Kuwaiti cit­i­zen re­ported his 25-yearold brother as miss­ing at Sabahiya Po­lice Sta­tion, re­ports Al-Anba daily.

He said his brother left the house sev­eral days ago, driv­ing off in a Ja­panese-made ve­hi­cle and has not been seen since then.

The cit­i­zen pro­vided po­lice with in­for­ma­tion about his brother as well as the ve­hi­cle he drove.

Se­cu­rity forces have ini­ti­ated the search for the miss­ing cit­i­zen.
