Kuwait and Spanish MPs discuss expanding co-op
Spain’s lawmaker lauds Kuwaiti democracy
MADRID, Sept 21, (KUNA): Visiting Kuwaiti lawmakers have discussed with Spanish counterparts means of strengthening the bilateral diplomatic relations and cooperation in various domains namely business and health fields.
The delegation, headed by MP Askar Al-Enezi, held talks on these issues with members of the Spanish parliamentary
external affairs committee, and its chairperson, Bailar Roku.
Talks during the meeting dealt with a host of issues of mutual concern and means of cementing the diplomatic ties, said Al-Enezi, whose delegation included MPs Dr Mohammad Al-Huwailah and researchers, Abdulaziz Nasrallah and Suleiman bin Nakhi. Al-Enezi told KUNA and Kuwait Television, on Thursday after the meeting, that the discussions also dealt with possibilities of expanding joint enterprises. Moreover, he expressed satisfaction at the existing cooperation in the health and tourism sectors.
The Kuwaiti parliamentary friendship delegation expressed gratitude to Spain for its support for the State of Kuwait nomination for a nonpermanent Security Council membership for 2018-2020.
Furthermore, the talks with the Spanish side dealt with cancelling the European Schengen visa for citizens of the GCC states, namely Kuwait.
MP Al-Enezi said his delegation expressed condolences on the double terrorist attack that shook Spain last month, re-affirming that Kuwait remained committed to combating all forms of terrorism anywhere in the world.
At least 16 people were killed in the double attack in Spain last month. A van ploughed through crowds of tourists on a famous street in Madrid on Aug 17. Hours later, a car sped into Cambrils, about 75 miles (120km) south of the city, hitting people before crashing into a police vehicle. The five occupants of the Audi A3 jumped out and went on a stabbing spree, killing a woman, before they were shot dead by police.
Meanwhile, a Spanish parliamentarian lauded Thursday the democratic process in the State of Kuwait, saying that the Kuwaiti National Assembly was one of the most transparent and trustworthy parliamentary bodies in the Middle East region.
After meeting with a Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation — headed by MP Askar Al-Enezi — chairperson of the foreign affairs committee at the Spanish parliament Pilar Rojo told KUNA and Kuwait television that Spain was eager to bolster relations with the GCC nation.
She lauded the Kuwaiti efforts within counterterrorism, affirming that Kuwait was a beacon of stability and hope in the region.
On the meeting with the Kuwaiti delegation, the Spanish parliamentarian revealed that both sides focused on bolstering relations on all possible levels.
