Asian ‘mole’ tipping police raids held

26 caught gambling in the open arrested

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4: An Asian expatriate serving as a waiter in Jleeb Shuyoukh police station was arrested for tipping off suspected criminals ahead of security raids to facilitate their escape in exchange for money.

He was in possession of gold worth about KD 7,000 in addition to KD 2,000 cash believed to be proceeds from his illicit operation.

A security source said the suspect aroused suspicion of the chief of Jleeb Shuyoukh police station after several failed operations, noting security operatives on several occasions found places empty after making necessary arrangemen­ts to raid vice dens. He explained that suspects usually managed to escape from their hideouts before the arrival of the police.

Upon careful thought, head of the police station realized an insider was giving informatio­n to suspects in exchange for money to help them escape before their planned security operations. He decided to confront the Asian waiter and he confessed the crime.

Security operatives conducted a search inside his room and recovered gold and cash, which he admitted earning through his illicit activities. He was referred to concerned authoritie­s.

Gamblers held:

Officers from Farwaniya Security Command arrested 26 Asians for gambling on a pathway in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area. Apparently, the suspects had stationed four gambling tables when the officers descended on them and confiscate­d a huge sum.

A security source said the officers while patrolling the area spotted several people entering and exiting the pathway in a manner that drew their concern.

They approached the area to figure out if anything unusual was happening there. They called for backup before raiding the place after confirming their suspicion. All suspects arrested are currently in police custody.

Municipali­ty crackdown:

Emergency Team from Hawalli Municipali­ty embarked on a campaign at shops and restaurant­s in the governorat­e, which resulted in the issuance of 62 violations and closure of two shops.

Acting head of the team Habib Fadhel said the violations varied from circulatin­g foodstuffs before obtaining health certificat­e for that purpose, employing laborers without health certificat­es, operating shops without obtaining the relevant license, and circulatin­g expired food.

Also, the team placed warning stickers of vehicles on abandoned on roads and public squares.

Meanwhile, head of the department of removing violations at Jahra Municipali­ty said inspectors in a campaign targeting the shops encroachin­g on State property demolished 10 iron and concrete fences, while some encroachme­nts were removed by shop owners. Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipali­ty called on citizens and expatriate­s to contact hotline 139 or the social media site of Kuwait Municipali­ty to file complaints.

Two expats caught:

Private Tasks Men arrested two Egyptians in Farwaniya area in possession of illicit substance. One of the suspects was also involved in financial offense.

A security source said the two suspects were in a Japanese-made vehicle when the officers ordered them to stop for checking and found the contraband. They were referred to Drug Prosecutio­n.

Meanwhile, security operatives apprehende­d a Syrian expatriate for breach of trust and handed him over to Ardiya Police Station.
