GTD has new office to corner ‘indirect’ traffic rule breakers

Agencies KUWAIT CITY, Nov 7: Two Kuwaiti brothers, 22 and 25 years old, died when their vehicle collided with another along King Fahad Motorway.

Firefighte­rs, securityme­n and paramedics rushed to the location after the Operations Unit in the Interior Ministry received informatio­n on the fatal accident.

Upon arrival at the scene, the rescuers checked the condition of the brothers inside their wrecked vehicle but they were already dead. Their remains were referred to Forensics.

The driver of the other vehicle, an Asian, sustained injuries and he was referred to Adan Hospital.

‘Indirect’ violations:

The Directorat­eGeneral of the General Traffic Department has establishe­d a new office which is affiliated to the Traffic Violations Investigat­ion Department, reports AlAnba daily quoting a senior official of the Ministry of Interior.

The daily quoting the official said the task of the new office is to summon those who commit serious ‘indirect’ violations. The source explained the ‘indirect violations’ are those which are recorded by traffic camera or by senior ministry officials in which case a motorist is not stopped while the offence is being committed.

The official affirmed such violators will be obliged to hand over their vehicles in accordance with Article 207 of the Traffic Law, which has been widely activated.

The office will begin work in midNovembe­r this year in accordance with the instructio­ns issued by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al Jarrah, Undersecre­tary of the Ministry, Lieutenant-General Mahmoud Al-Dosari based on a proposal submitted by the Traffic General Department.

The daily added, the violators will not be able to process any documents at any government office if he/she refuses to answer the summons by the office.

The official added, one of the aims of establishi­ng the office is also to inform parents of the serious traffic violations committed by their children to help them control their behavior and take effective part in correcting this behavior with active participat­ion with the General Traffic Department.

The official revealed telephone lines will be introduced to respond to queries and also to call the violators. In case if the violator cannot be reached by telephone, the office will send a notificati­on to the home address of the offender.

Meanwhile, a reliable source pointed out the total number of indirect violations during the first 10 days of October 2017 was 1,467,368 violations, 1,157,607 of which was for exceeding the speed limit and 135,201 for jumping the red signal.
