New govt expected to attend Parliament session on Dec 12

‘Panel reviewing withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship facing dilemma’

-

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: The new government is expected to attend the Parliament session slated for Dec 12, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.

Sources affirmed the new government will be in line with the parliamentary majority’s aspirations, so there will be stronger coordination between the two authorities.

Meanwhile, constitutional sources said the general pardon for persons convicted by the judiciary necessitates a law in this regard; indicating the judicial system has no authority to pardon these persons. Sources added the government’s opinion will be clear after the meeting with HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Meanwhile, the government has asked the tripartite committee formed by the Fatwa and Legislation Department, Interior Ministry and State Ministry for Municipality Affairs to expedite amendment of the Municipality Council election schedule, reports AlQabas daily quoting a knowledgeable source.

According to the source, the committee will submit the amendment to the Cabinet after one week in order to conduct a valid and legal election.

The source said the government is abiding by the rule on arranging the election within 60 days after the end of the council’s term, affirming that non-formation of the new government will not affect completion of the amendment.

Furthermore, the Committee which was formed to review the issue of withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship faces a dilemma because of the failure of the National Assembly to approve the law in this regard, reports AlQabas daily.

The daily quoting a knowledgeable source said the withdrawn citizenships will not be reinstated unless the draft law to naturalize two thousand bedoun every year is passed by the National Assembly.

The source explained the committee had decided to reinstate the citizenship of 10 people, but now faces a problem because the law has not been approved.

The source added lawmakers should have passed this forgotten law last year, instead of using the grilling tool and asking the government to resolve the issue.
