ICSK dominate 19th CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet

‘Sports do not build character, they reveal it’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: The Indian Educationa­l School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait, organized the 19th CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet under the leadership of the Kuwait Chapter convener T. Premkumar.

The four-day event saw the agile athletes fight tooth and nail in 66 events. “Sports do not build character, they reveal it.” True to the adage the event stood testimony to revealing the character of the fierce athletes brimming with vigor and intensity which ushered in victory creating new records in track and field events all by the students of the ICSK in U-17 boys discus throw, U-17 boys 4x100 meters relay, U-19 boys 4x100 m relay, and U-14 Girls 4x100m relay.

The overall championsh­ip was won for the 16th time by the Indian Community School with an incredible lead score of 396 points.

In the lively and exciting closing ceremony, the winners regaled themselves with the applause of acknowledg­ement, and the euphoria of victory and sportsmans­hip as the Premkumar announced the results.

Premkumar wished all the athletes good luck who will be taking part in the National CBSE Athletic Meet soon at the

ICSK boys lead the way in the 4x100m relay final.

The inaugural and valedictor­y functions of the four-day event were organized by the Principal of Integrated Indian School, Arul Thomas.

The welcome bouquets were presented to the Chief Guest Dr Binumon, Principal, Indian Community School, Kuwait and the Guest of Honor T. Premkumar, Indian Educationa­l School, Kuwait by the students of Integrated Indian School, Abbassiya.

The Kuwait chapter flag was then hoisted by Dr Binumon. The ensuing ceremonial displayed elegant march past led by the BSS cadets of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in colorful rhythmic beat followed by the Champion school of 2016-17, Indian Community School, Kuwait.

R. Dharshan Kumar of Grade 11, Indian Central School who is an outstandin­g sportsman administer­ed the oath to 577 athletes from 15 Indian Schools in Kuwait.

Dr Binumon addressing the gathering stressed on the importance of sports and the spirit of sportsmans­hip. He told the students, “Be proud of the fact that you have been chosen to represent your school. In your endeavor to be a winner cultivate sportsmans­hip and balance sports and academics.”

Premkumar thanked the vibrant athletes for their presence. He stressed on the importance of sports and how it can shape the personalit­y of an individual. He congratula­ted the students for being standouts from the rest of the students at their respective schools.

He exhorted the athletes to compete with true sportsman spirit and excel by performing better than the previous years.

The release of pigeons symbolizin­g resilience, perception and devotion in sports marked the declaratio­n of the athletic meet open.
