KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14, (Agencies): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received at Bayan Palace on Tuesday visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his accompanyi­ng delegation.

The two leaders held official talks, which included senior cabinet officials from both countries. Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah said the talks highlighte­d the deeply rooted bilateral relations, ways to bolster them and means to improve cooperatio­n on all fronts. Sheikh Ali added that talks also delved into latest developmen­ts on the regional and internatio­nal arenas. Turkey and Kuwait’s military chiefs of staff held talks on the “developing and strengthen­ing” military cooperatio­n, according to KUNA.

The Turkish president, who has called for the lifting of the sanctions against Qatar, is scheduled to visit Doha on Wednesday.

Kuwait and Turkey on Tuesday signed a number of agreements in a ceremony held at Bayan Palace with both nations’ respective leaders in attendance.

The ceremony brought together His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Erdogan, where various deals were forged between Kuwait and Ankara. Among the agreements was a deal for cooperatio­n in sports, in which Kuwait’s Minister of Commerce and Industry as well as Acting Minister of State for Youth Affairs Khaled AlRoudhan, along with his Turkish counterpar­t Osman Askin Bak were the signatorie­s.

Meanwhile, a memorandum of understand­ing to encourage bilateral investment was signed by Director General of Kuwait’s Direct Investment Promotion Authority Sheikh Dr Meshaal Al-Sabah and President of Turkey’s Investment Support and Promotion Agency Arda Ermut.

A protocol for cooperatio­n between Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and Turkey’s Scientific and Technologi­cal Research Council was also signed, where KISR’s Director General Dr Samira Omar and the President of the Turkish national agency Professor Dr Arif Ergin put their names on the dotted line.

Erdogan has since departed Kuwait after having held official talks with His Highness the Amir.

Seeing off the Turkish leader at Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport was His Highness the Amir, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Sheikh Mohammad AlKhaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Amiri Diwan Deputy Minister Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Informatio­n Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdallah Al-Mubarak AlSabah and senior staff from the military, police, National Guard and Fire Services Directorat­e.
