MoH no­ti­fies pan­els on agree­ing to in­clude house­wives in ‘AFIA’

‘Health’ to sup­ply phar­ma­cies with ad­vanced medicines

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: Min­istry of Health at a re­cent meet­ing no­ti­fied the Par­lia­men­tary Com­mit­tee on Health, So­cial and La­bor Af­fairs that it agrees in prin­ci­ple on in­clud­ing house­wives in the re­tiree health in­sur­ance scheme (AFIA), re­ports AlJarida daily.

Mem­ber of the com­mit­tee MP Khalid Al-Otaibi said the min­istry af­firmed the need to pro­vide a data­base con­tain­ing the ex­act num­ber of house­wives to de­ter­mine spe­cific cost of the scheme be­fore ap­proval.

He said the meet­ing agreed to con­clude dis­cus­sion on the is­sue af­ter pro­vid­ing the num­ber of house­wives plus other in­for­ma­tion re­quired for that pur­pose.

He in­di­cated the com­mit­tee stopped de­lib­er­a­tion on the re­spon­si­bil­ity of med­i­cal prac­ti­tion­ers con­cern­ing med­i­cal er­rors and de­cided to in­vite Kuwait Med­i­cal As­so­ci­a­tion next Sun­day to con­clude the dis­cus­sion.

He stressed the com­mit­tee agreed to in­clude cer­tain is­sues on the agenda of its next meet­ing, such as medicines the Min­istry of Health dis­trib­uted to hos­pi­tals that did not meet spec­i­fi­ca­tions, short­age of some im­por­tant medicines in hos­pi­tals, and some nurses in hos­pi­tals and health cen­ters re­fus­ing to use Vi­ta­min D uri­nals be­cause they’re griz­zled and con­tained some sed­i­ments.

Mean­while, Min­istry of Health is mak­ing prepa­ra­tions to sup­ply phar­ma­cies at Hus­sein Makki Al-Jumah Can­cer Cen­ter with ad­vanced medicines for can­cer pa­tients, and KD 4.2 mil­lion has been ear­marked for the project, re­ports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily quot­ing a re­li­able source dis­closed the in­ten­tion to en­sure im­proved health­care ser­vices for pa­tients and vis­i­tors to the cen­ter, while the quan­tity of medicines will not re­duce. He stressed the min­istry is on the verge of sup­ply­ing pub­lic hos­pi­tals and the spe­cial­ist clin­ics medicines for pso­ri­a­sis and rheuma­toid arthri­tis at a cost of KD 1.2 mil­lion, in ad­di­tion to po­lio vac­cines worth KD 1.1 mil­lion for all pre­ven­tive health de­part­ments at health cen­ters and hos­pi­tals.

He noted the min­istry has since ob­tained ap­provals from con­cerned au­thor­i­ties to im­port medicines and vac­cines, while phar­ma­cies at the hos­pi­tals and health cen­ters will re­ceive medicines for di­a­betes, rheuma­tism, ner­vous sys­tem and kid­ney at a cost of KD 2.5 mil­lion. He in­di­cated medicines for vi­ral dis­eases at the In­fec­tious Dis­eases Hos­pi­tal will cost KD 199,000, in ad­di­tion to anes­the­sia for treat­ment of drug ad­dicts at the Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter.
