Speaker counsels patience
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: “The external challenges we are facing now are above anything else and we must deal with the political landscape rationally,” says National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim.
Al-Ghanim made the statement Thursday after confirming that there will be a meeting with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah but it will not take place next week. He said he will inform the Parliament as soon as the meeting date is confirmed.
He also clarified that the meeting with HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah is still on and the date will be set later.
He went on to say that most of the ‘fatwas’ (edicts) of a certain constitutional expert are wrong, indicating this expert claimed that delaying the formation of the government is a
constitutional violation and that there is no basis for the constitutionality period of two weeks.
He stressed the need to be patient in order to come up with an acceptable formation of the government and not to fall into mistakes of the past. “I believe the formation of the government is taking time due to the visit of the Palestinian and Turkish leaders to the country,” he added.
In a related development, MP Riyadh Al-Adsani pointed out the absence of a constitutional text on the formation of the government, asserting the lawmakers are hoping for a solid government.
He said HH the Prime Minister must encourage the incoming ministers to address the irregularities that the State Audit Bureau mentioned in its reports.
He asserted the prime minister must choose competent ministers with the ability to deal with the bureau’s reports on violations.
He disclosed the Budgets Committee will meet with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) next week to discuss the bureau’s comments and disciplinary trials.
He added, “Our economy is solid and excellent. We have to develop our investments abroad, while those who caused the failure of foreign investments and huge losses for the public treasury must be held accountable.”
