KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: Acting Undersecretary for Public Security in the Ministry of Interior Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah issued a decision to deport two Egyptians who fought at the Fruits and Vegetables Market and caused mayhem in violation of Kuwaiti laws.

The Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received report about a public brawl at the onion section of fruits and vegetable market and deployed a team of security operatives and paramedics to the scene. The officers apprehended members of the feuding parties.

Initial investigation revealed the issue started by a simple misunderstanding and escalated to exchange of blows. They also discovered the two expatriates are Egyptians. Necessary action was taken and orders have since been issued to deport them. A security source said the authorities have issued instructions to strictly deal with lawbreakers without leniency.

Fines on vendors: Kuwait Municipality has denied recent rumor saying the sector imposes fines on vendors, reports Al-Rai daily.

The statement was in response to a recent question from the Director of Public Authority for Food and Nutrition Essa Al-Kandari regarding KD 100 fine the Municipality is alleged to have imposed on vendors, alleging a letter the Director of Kuwait Municipality sent a letter to the official in charge of the sector stating the fine of KD 100 fine could be raised to

KD 500 against people who display items in the streets for sale.

Director of Kuwait Municipality pointed out that the decree issued in 1977 on street vending is no longer suitable for the situation at present.

Meanwhile, a knowledgeable source said Kuwait Municipality does not have the right to confiscate goods unless they are spoilt. He added Kuwait Municipality obliges the vendor to sign an undertaking to destroy such commodities (vegetable or fruits).

‘800 cases handled’: Employees were in their seats facilitating the transactions of applicants during a field tour of the Jahra Residency Affairs Department by Al-Qabas news crew recently, says Al-Qabas daily.

The officer in charge of affairs at the department said roughly 800 transactions are accomplished per day, including family visit visas, commercial visit visas, and private visit visas, besides the renewal of residencies.

He explained the transactions of some nationalities are subject to extra review as they require the approval of Assistant Undersecretary for Residency Affairs Major General Mazen Al-Jarrah. He stressed that “only Israelis are prevented from entering Kuwait”.

He pointed to implementing strict regulations of late to prevent the issuance of family visits to marginal workers, indicating many of such visitors have been arrested while working, although they came to Kuwait on visit visas.

He noted a few employees took sick leave and others absent without any excuse will be reprimanded by deducting their salaries. He also said visitors are usually unaware of the required documents, which causes delay in their transactions.

Meanwhile, many visitors to the department expressed satisfaction for the quality of services offered and said employees of the department are cooperative and patient.
