‘Strong ties link Kuwait and Iraq’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 13: Chairman of Board of Directors of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Dr Hilal Al-Sayer revealed about an agreement reached with Iraq to facilitate procedures in order to expedite the delivery of aid particularly medical equipments and medicines to the needy through Safwan border checkpoint, reports Al-Rai daily.

He said KRCS has been sending aid to the affected areas in Iraq since the start of the war.

Dr Al-Sayer explained that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, one week before the month of Ramadan that year when the war started, had insisted on ensuring the donations reach Iraq before Ramadan. They managed to send the aid to Iraq on time but bureaucracy and routine procedures led to delay in delivering the aid to the needy people.

Meanwhile, Head of the media committee for the conference on reconstruction of Iraq Mohammad AlBaddah said the committee has all necessary equipments and technical requirements for the media personalities and journalists to do their job with the participation of international media bodies.

He indicated that more than 400 journalists from various countries around the world are taking part to cover the forum along with those from local TV stations and newspapers.

In addition, a representative of Iraqi journalists Mu’ayad Al-Lami highlighted the strong ties that link Kuwait and Iraq.

He affirmed that the conference on reconstruction of Iraq is very important, and those who belittle the importance of this conference should wait for the fruits of the conference.

Al-Lami indicated that those who are unaware of the importance of the conference are a small minority both in Kuwait and Iraq, and represent no one but themselves.
