Interpol launches all-out manhunt for maid killers
Over 250 nationalities pulled, more to come
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: Interpol has launched an extensive search to find and arrest the suspected criminals who placed the corpse of a Filipina woman inside a freezer, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
According to reports broadcasted by news agencies, the Director of Social Welfare at Overseas Manpower Department Hans Leu Kakdack oversaw the transfer of the remains of the victim Joanna Daniela Demafelis to Manila. He expressed hope for justice to be achieved in this case.
He explained that the Foreign Minister of the Philippines had issued a statement after the remains arrived at Manila. As per the statement, the main suspects are a Lebanese national and his Syrian wife who left Kuwait few years ago before the crime was discovered. The couple had criminal records as per the Kuwaiti law.
Kakdack indicated that he is waiting for more details from the INTERPOL in this regard, revealing that the investigations, which are ongoing, will be covert at this stage.
He affirmed his support for the family of the victim and offered them his deepest condolences.
The remains of the Filipina woman was discovered inside a freezer in the flat of the Lebanese expatriate in Shaab area on Feb 9. Forensic examination on the corpse revealed fractures on the chest area and that the victim suffered from internal bleeding before she died.
250 withdrawn:
The withdrawal of the Kuwaiti nationality from 17 people is just a thread that will lead to the withdrawal of nationalities of their siblings and grandchildren, reports Al-Rai daily quoting high level security sources.
The daily put the figure at 250. Their nationalities have been withdrawn upon an Amiri decree which was published in the official gazette ‘Kuwait Alyawm’.
The sources said the files of the 17 people were carefully scrutinized before taking a decision because of the sensitivity of the issue. Their names were not announced until it was certain and crystal clear that they did not deserve the Kuwaiti nationality.
Two hundred and fifty men and women is a significant number, taking into account the benefits they have taken from the State on the strength of this nationality in terms of services, free education and scholarships to study abroad, employment, housing and healthcare, etc., which means millions of dinars have been spent on each person who did not deserve it.
The sources pointed out that among those who are stripped off their nationality is a military colonel, retired officers and others who are well placed in civilian jobs.
2 held with drugs:
Police have arrested a young Kuwaiti man and an Egyptian woman believed to be in her early 20s for possessing and consuming narcotic pills, reports Al-Rai daily.
The couple was picked up from a car while driving along a street in Maidan Hawally reportedly for reckless driving.
It has been reported the woman who was in the front seat got out of the car when the man pulled over upon police request and attempted to flee but she was pursued and caught.
When police checked the records, they found the woman was wanted by law in a money-related case and another case which was filed by a compatriot woman accusing her of verbally abusing her.
The young man is also believed to be a criminal and was wanted by law for failing to pay KD 13,000 debt.
The couple was also allegedly disoriented at the time of arrest. Police have seized from the couple Tramadol pills and handed over to the General Department for Drugs Control.
