His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday sent a cable of condolence­s to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani over the victims of a plane crash.

In the cable, His Highness the Amir prayed Almighty Allah to have mercy upon the victims and to bestow solace on their families.

Two cables of similar sentiments were sent to the Iranian president by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The Iranian commercial plane crashed on Sunday in a foggy, mountainou­s region of southern Iran, likely killing all 65 people on board, state

media reported.

An Aseman Airlines ATR72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flying, went down near its destinatio­n of the southern Iranian city of Yasuj, some 780 kilometers (485 miles) south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Aseman Airlines spokesman Mohammad Taghi Tabatabai told state TV that all on Flight No. EP3704 were killed.

“After searching the area, we learned that unfortunat­ely ... our dear passengers had lost their lives,” Tabatabai said. “This plane had 60 passengers, 59 adults and one child, as well as a pilot, a co-pilot, two flight attendants and two air marshals on board.” (Agencies) KUWAIT CITY:

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday sent a cable of condolence­s to UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan over the martyrdom of a UAE soldier while carrying out his duty as part of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition’s operations in Yemen.

In the cable, His Highness the Amir prayed Almighty Allah to have mercy upon him.

Two cables of similar sentiments were sent to the UAE president by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Furthermor­e, the General Command of UAE Armed Forces said on Sunday one of its serviceman was killed in Yemen while he was on duty as part of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition in this war-torn Arab country.

Sergeant Ali Al Mesmari was “martyred” while carrying out his duties within the Coalition’s operations, the general command said in a press release, carried by Emirate News Agency (WAM).

The General Command offered its condolence­s to the killed soldier’s family, according to the release. (KUNA)
