‘Kuwait can become a major source of preserving Arab history, heritage’
Turkish lawmaker warns of extinction of Arabic in his country
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18, (Agencies): Turkish lawmaker, political philosopher and member of the Parliamentary Friendship Committee Mohammad Ali Aslan affirmed the need to cancel visa that could facilitate entry of his Turk compatriots to Kuwait based on the principle of reciprocity, reports Al-Anba daily.
Aslan declared the issue will be coordinated between Turk parliamentarians and Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He explained that Kuwait is capable of becoming a major source of preserving Arab history and heritage through the establishment of Arabic language learning centers. He warned of the extinction of Arabic in Turkey mainly because of the absence of schools that teach the language.
He made the disclosure in the presence of Turkish businessman and member of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Ehab Zamo. He urged Kuwait to embrace Turkish and Arabian products, considering brilliant attainments in terms of quality and competitiveness. He affirmed that Turkish products have beaten records and compete favorably with Europe and Japan in terms of quality and cost.
He called for cooperation and doing things together for unparalleled successes, stressing Turkey has rich history. He noted Arabs lived in many of its provinces during the primitive era, and history should be given prominence to avoid extinction.
The Turkish city of Istanbul is set to play host to the third version of the Arabic Book and Culture Days between March 2-11.
The cultural event will be coorganized by the Writers Union of Turkey (TYB) Istanbul Branch and Hasimi Publishing House, the TYB said in a press release on Friday.
It is expected to attract 55 publishing houses, 300 scientists and writers from 22 countries, mainly from Kuwait, Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan and Qatar, it added.
The gathering is mainly meant to promote and bolster religious and linguistic bonds, to establish a common heritage and culture of Islamic countries, the union said.
Thousands of books in Arabic will be displayed, while conferences, seminars, concerts, faculty meetings, discussions and art exhibitions will take place, it noted.
