Police arrest corpse dumpers at hospital

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: An inspection tour carried out by Farwaniya Municipali­ty’s Inspection Department on a number of shops, restaurant­s and food outlets in Farwaniya area resulted in the issuance of nine citations.

The violations for which the citations were issued included noncomplia­nce with regulation­s, and personal and public hygiene conditions as well as for selling food items prior to obtaining health certificat­es, and employing employees who do not have health certificat­es.

Food supervisor Eng. Mohammad Al-Azmi said the campaigns were in line with the keenness of the authority to ensure safety and suitabilit­y of the food items for consumptio­n based on directives from the Director of the department Suttam Al-Sahli.

Eng. Al-Azmi affirmed that such inspection tours will continue in order to curb violations, adding that the authority will not take the violations related to safety of food products lightly due to their direct connection with the health of consumers.

‘Protecting rights’:

Deputy Director General of Manpower Protection at Public Authority for Manpower Abdullah Al-Mutawtah says the emergency team and the manpower disputes unit registered 239 complaints from workers in Sulaibiya Industrial Area following the registrati­on of 853 complaints in Shuaiba Industrial Area, says Al-Seyassah.

Al-Mutawtah said the emergency team is ready to visit any site if the workers are unable to approach the labor relations department in any of the six governorat­es, indicating that this is aimed to ensure protection of workers and to protect their rights.

He stressed that the Public Authority for Manpower has laws and regulation­s that will help achieve the ultimate goal, which is the protection of workers.

Meanwhile, Director General of Public Authority for Manpower Dr Mubarak Al-Azmi Thursday received the Federal Secretary of Pakistanis and Human Resources Developmen­t Dr. Mohammad Hashim and his accompanyi­ng delegation.

They discussed a number of issues that concern Pakistani workers in Kuwait and the sisterly ties between the two countries.

Body-dumpers caught:

Just a few hours after the corpse of a young Kuwaiti was found in the parking lot of the Mubarak Al-Kabir Hospital, police have identified three youths who reportedly dumped the corpse where it was found, reports Al-Anba daily.

After checking the CCTV cameras of the hospital and in cooperatio­n with telecom companies, police identified the 3 young men and arrested them.

During interrogat­ion the trio said they were consuming drugs inside an apartment and after they felt the victim had died, they panicked and dumped the corpse to avoid arrest.

Unpaid debts:

Acting on informatio­n, the Mubarak Al-Kabir police have arrested a Kuwaiti who was wanted by law in connection with 20 crimes, including 18 counts of failure to pay debts worth KD 800,000, reports Al-Rai daily.

The suspect was arrested after police received a tip-off that the man was in Jabriya. He has been handed over to the concerned authoritie­s.

Trading blame:

Police have detained an unidentifi­ed Egyptian for assaulting his wife and then filing a complaint with the Ahmadi Police Station accusing his wife of assaulting him and throwing him out of the house, reports Al-Rai daily.

When the police summoned the wife she narrated a totally different story and then insisted on filing a complaint against her husband. She also submitted a medical report which shows bruises on her body. The husband added, he filed the complaint because he felt his wife was going to cause him harm.

‘Did it for revenge’:

When a Kuwaiti woman filed a complaint accusing an indentifie­d man had broken into her beauty parlor and stolen the contents, police arrested the man and produced him before the complainan­t, reports Al-Rai daily.

The woman was taken by surprise when she discovered it was her ex-husband.

However, during interrogat­ion the ‘suspect’ admitted to the charge and said he did not empty the parlor because of money but to take revenge on her.

Nonetheles­s, the ex-wife insisted on filing a case and the thief has been referred to the authoritie­s.

Two fires tackled:

Fire engulfed a pile of wood near Sabah Al-Nasser Cooperativ­e Society. No casualties were reported, says Al-Seyassah.

When Kuwait Fire Service Directorat­e (KFSD) received informatio­n about the fire, firefighte­rs rushed to the location and extinguish­ed the fire before it spread further.

Meanwhile, a vehicle burst into flames in Jahra area and firefighte­rs extinguish­ed it. No casualties were reported.
