Lawyer helps man win case sans fee

Woman pleads for son

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: Lawyer Enam Haidar, on humanitarian basis, went pro bono and helped secure the release of man who was convicted of possessing and consuming drugs.

The lawyer was at the entrance of the court when she saw an elderly woman crying. She asked the elderly woman the reason why she was crying. The woman said her only son has been convicted in a drug abuse case and she did not have any money to appoint a lawyer for defending her son.

Lawyer Haidar volunteered to represent the convicted son in the court and she won the case for the elderly woman as the court acquitted her son of all charges.

The son had been arrested by securitymen after they received a report of kidnap in Surra area, rushed to the location, found a car in the area in which the defendant was sitting and discovered substances deemed to be drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Lawyer Haidar stressed the lack of concrete evidences against the defendant.

Good conduct pledge:

The Cassation Court suspended the execution of a verdict issued against a Kuwaiti woman who was sentenced to ten-year imprisonment with hard labor for practicing black magic. The court instead obliged her to sign a pledge of good conduct for two years.

The Public Prosecution had pressed charges against her for tricking a victim into handing over money and gold jewelry after promising the healing of her mother from an illness by breaking a curse.

During the court session, the defense counsel Lawyer Hassan Al-Ajmi indicated the lack of evidences to prove that his client committed the crime, dismissing the evidences brought by the prosecution.

‘I’m not Iranian’:

The Court of Appeals obligated the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) to cancel its decision to not register the plaintiff and issue him a valid security ID card.

The lawsuit was filed by Lawyer Ali Al-Mousawi on behalf of his client who is a member of a Kuwaiti family whose Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn.

Lawyer Al-Mousawi explained that his client was shocked to discover that he was registered at Ministry of Interior as an Iranian citizen even though he was born after his family’s Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn. The Iranian Embassy had refused to grant his client any document to prove that he is an Iranian citizen because he did not have any document to prove that he is an Iranian citizen.

The Court of First Instance had dismissed the lawsuit but Lawyer Al-Mousawi appealed the ruling at the Court of Appeals. He insisted that his client is not an Iranian and does not have any documents in this regard except the delivery notification.

Lawyer Al-Mousawi indicated that his client is registered at some state institutions as Bedoun and in others as Iranian.
