KFAS to hold 2nd imec symposium on deploying sustainable energy system
Conference from April 17 to 18
KUWAIT CITY, April 3: The Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS) and imec, the international research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies will collaborate to organize the Second Kuwait imec Symposium titled “Energy and ICT: A Crucial Combination for Deploying a Sustainable Energy System.” The Symposium will be held from April 17 to 18, 2018. The Symposium is one of the major scientific events organized by KFAS, aiming to drive progress in all fields of science and technology, and inspire a culture of development and innovation within national public and private sectors, as well as wider society.
In its release, KFAS announced that free registration to the Symposium is now open to all scientists, researchers, investors, and anyone that shares an interest in nanoelectronics and its various applications.
According to the planned agenda, the Symposium will include open lectures highlighting the latest advancements in photovoltaics, which includes: Crystalline Silicon, new Thin-Film Photo Voltaic (PV) materials, as well as battery storages, with a focus on solid-state batteries for higher reliability and safety. Moreover, the lectures will discuss the use of data communication & analytics to enable efficient management of energy networks, including cyber-security in order to secure their resilience and interoperability.
Commenting on this occasion, KFAS Director General, Dr Adnan Shihab El-din said: “Hosting this important scientific event once again demonstrates the global recognition of Kuwait’s scientific endeavors. We are very pleased that KFAS has helped in making Kuwait an important destination for technology researchers around the world.”
Dr Adnan proceeded: “This year, the Symposium will focus on the latest developments achieved by imec and the Europen Research Institute for Sustainable Energy, also known as Energy Ville. It will also look into enhancing cooperation with national stakeholders in the field of research and development to create innovative and cost-effective solutions, hence enabling future transitions towards sustainable energy.”
“We have invited a wide range of stakeholders from Kuwait and GCC, including individuals and organizations specialized in R&D, in addition to private IT & communication corporates. The confirmations we received promise a very high turnout” concluded Dr Adnan.
The Foundation expects a greater level of attendance to this year’s Symposium than 2016, in which the future of nanotechnology applications in critical fields like health and energy was discussed. The first Kuwait imec event was titled “Exploring Technology for a Sustainable Future” and welcomed more than 300 participants from governmental organizations, research centers, universities, private sector corporations in Kuwait, in the addition to participants from GCC countries and foreign diplomats.
KFAS concludes this announcement by urging those who wish to attend the Kuwait-Imec symposium to fill out the free attendance request form.
The form is available online through: www.kfas.org/imec2018.
KFAS also stated attendees so far include scientists from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Kuwait University and private universities, engineers from the oil industry and the Ministry of Electricity & Water, and Arab and European diplomats.
Instant Arabic translation will be available at the Symposium.
