AL applauds Kuwait support for Palestine
Israel responsible for killing Palestinians
CAIRO, April 3, (KUNA): The Arab League (AL) on Tuesday praised relentless efforts that had been exerted by the State of Kuwait when it served as member of the United Nations Security Council last February in support of the Palestinian cause.
The Kuwaiti efforts were appreciated in a statement issued after the extraordinary meeting that grouped delegates at the Arab organization to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinians in face of latest Israeli attacks.
The session final statement affirmed support for a request by Palestine to the International Criminal Court to hold urgent investigation into the Israeli crimes against peaceful Palestinian demonstrators.
Meanwhile, Kuwait on Tuesday reiterated the need for Israel, as an “occupational force”, to conform to United Nations Security Council resolutions, saying it bears “legal, political and moral responsibility” for killing several and wounding hundreds of unarmed Palestinians.
Kuwait’s permanent Arab League envoy told fellow envoys that his country had called for urgent talks at the Security Council on Israel’s use of live gunfire to kill 16 and injure over 700 unarmed Palestinians on Friday.
The move was made amid Kuwait’s nonpermanent UNSC membership and its commitment to supporting Arab affairs, Kuwaiti ambassador Ahmad Al-Baker told representatives at the Cairo-based pan-Arab body.
It aimed to underline that “the Security Council should bear its responsibilities in providing the Palestinian people with security and demanding that the ‘occupational authority’, Israel, bears its responsibility for killing and wounding Palestinian protesters.” Al-Baker blamed Israel for “recklessness” in its refusal to abide by the Geneva Conventions.
