RABAT, April 14, (KUNA): A delegation from the sixth parliamentary friendship group of the Kuwaiti National Assembly on Thursday discussed means of boosting bilateral cooperative relations with its Moroccan counterpart, mainly the legislative field.

In a joint statement to KUNA and the Kuwait TV, head of the delegation MP Askar Al-Enzi said that the Kuwait-Moroccan ties are deep-rooted and old. He added that these relations cover political, economic and cultural domains, and others, referring to 50 agreements signed by the two sides in this regard.

He pointed to Kuwait’s contribution to Moroccan investment efforts, worth more than $1 billion, noting that they include all agricultural, economic and services sectors.

He stressed that this shows the depth of relations between the two countries and the wisdom of the two countries’ leaders.

He called for activating mechanisms of cooperation between Kuwait’s National Assembly and its Moroccan counterpart through setting a clear plan of common interest to be applied by the two sides on boosting legislative and investment fields as well as consolidating economic relations and others.

Meanwhile, MP Mohammad Al-Howaila told KUNA in a similar statement that the visit aims to boost standing cooperation between the two countries, mainly legislation.

He stressed Kuwait’s keenness on backing Morocco’s economic development requirements and its unity, stating that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah affirmed this issue during the GulfMoroccan summit.

He demanded intensifying visits between the two countries’ parliaments and coordinating positions on various international and regional issues.

In a speech during the meeting, MP Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie commended the KuwaitMoroccan relations supported by the leaders of the two countries.

He looks forward to further coordination of positions and unification of visions between the two parliaments regarding issues and dossiers of common concern.

He also called for increasing

visits and meetings between the two parliaments’ delegations, referring to National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim’s invitation to his Moroccan counterpart to visit Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti delegation arrived in Casablanca airport on Wednesday on an official visit to the country, within the framework of efforts by National Assembly aiming to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and develop relations with parliaments of friendly and sisterly countries.

Furthermore, the State of Kuwait has pledged humanitarian aid for crises-stricken Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kuwait is closely monitoring humanitarian conditions in the DRC, said Ambassador Jamal

Al-Ghunaim, the State of Kuwait Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, on Friday.

The State of Kuwait is keen on backing humanitarian action and international cooperation for Congo, said the ambassador in remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

Ambassador Al-Ghunaim is heading the State of Kuwait delegation, partaking in the “conference for supporting the humanitarian response plan for the Republic of Congo,” held here on Friday.

He lauded humanitarian role by UN agencies for helping the Congolese, called for finding a fundamental solution to the crisis in the country and praised confidence restoration measures, undertaken by the Congolese Government.

According to UN estimates, the international plan for relieving the African nation requires $504 million to secure needs for more than 685,000 refugees and relocated Congolese.

The figure is expected to swell to 807,000 by the end of the year, making Congo, according to the UN, the number-one African country suffering from such a humanitarian crisis.

The pledging conference is cohosted by the European Commission, the United Nations and the Dutch government.

Congo has been swamped with troubles and ethnic conflicts since gaining independence from Belgium in 1960.
