Swansea University team visits KU dept

KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The Health Informatics and Information Management Department (HIIMD) at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences in Kuwait University hosted Professor Sinead Brophy and a team from the Health Informatics Group at the Medical School in Swansea University, Wales, United Kingdom.
This visit is part of the department’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the group in June 2017. The MoU includes cooperation between the Health Informatics Group at the Medical School in Swansea University and the department.
During the visit, the Swansea Health Informatics Team conducted a series of lectures and workshops for the Health Science Center, particularly the department.
Brophy is a Public Health professor and co-director of the Center for Mindfulness Based Work and Research.
The two parties also identified and developed joint research projects aimed at making a difference in the health of people in Kuwait. The team reviewed the department’s curriculum to ensure that it is ready for international academic accreditation.
The visit resulted in an agreement on joint development and delivery of health informatics courses; such that the department will be co-supervise master’s and doctorate projects on health informatics research for Kuwaiti students in coordination with the Health Informatics Group at Swansea University’s Medical School.
Meanwhile, acting Chairperson of the department Dr Eman Al-Jafar unveiled their aspiration to cooperate with Swansea University’s Medical School Health Informatics Research and Teaching Team.
Al-Jafar stressed the need to fortify the MoU as an obligation to work together in exploring areas of research and teaching specialization, as well as to share knowledge in the field of health informatics and health data sciences.
